Another rail hub round here ! Planned there was looking to built just off the A38/A50 near Toyota Island too . Think this new rail freight hub mite have something to do with HS2 as I’m sure there’s going to be a shunting yard at Toton near Nottingham so right on the doorstep of this rail hub . I was chatting to a Network rail safety guy the other week on site who was over seeing the crane which was tipping me next rail embankment he said HS2 is going to happen ! And also the compulsory purchase orders have gone in too for property and land which the route takes in plus tenders for work are going too .

Our yard has a railway in it, where trains used to take the built Hondas for export but no longer used, yet we still go to Southampton to collect boxes - a train once or twice day would save money…
It’s still connected to the GWML…

I was told that because they didnt build a seperate run off siding they have to hold up the mainline to shunt the trains in and out. Due to the frequency of trains on that stretch the cost of delays runs into £££’s each time.
I’m sure you all know when JV of Radio 2 fame comes on at 12:00 with a transport related issue, you can guarantee some bored housewife of an executive husband, ( Margo Ledbetter )type comes on air and pipes up… ‘’ send all the goods by rail ‘’…
Yeah… Right darling… When was the last time you saw railway lines at goods in at Waitrose

I believe there is a short headshunt siding next to the mainline and they certainly can run round the locos in the yard as there are point work in the concrete (nearly fallen down the gap once or twice lol)…
Reading the BBC report it looks more like a get-rich-quick scam by the property developer. All the shekel-making warehousing is going to be built first, long before the railway connection. Then there is bound to be a ‘viability assessment’ and everything to do with the railway will suddenly become ‘unsustainable’, ie not enough profit in it for the developer; so that idea will be scrapped. That won’t happen however before Mr Snout-in-Trough developer has trousered £■■ million in taxpayer grant for the scheme. Meanwhile of course Mr Suit, totally pig-ignorant HM Minister of ■■■■■■■■, will have been pontificating about how clever he is to move freight onto the railways.
