Latest report is that the first trailer on the train was blown completely off into the path of the passenger train.
Been threads on here about empty containers being blown off trains going up Shap, so looks like the wind was to blame!

I have just read in the railway press that the problem was one (or more) semitrailers not being correctly secured to the freight car - the kingpins were not located correctly in the fifth wheel pedestal and as the train was filled with empty beer kegs they simply blew off into the side of the passenger train.
