Cheers, Toby. I Googled for vacancies at:

toby1234abc:
‘…4624 Squadron…’

and only found a vacancy for a Wing Commander …but am guessing at crossed-communication since that’s a good way up the ladder from the realities of lummocking around in a lorry.

Sounds quite good actually, shame im 50 in 8 weeks otherwise I would have given it a go myself, always fancy a new challenge… :grimacing:

“Expeditions and sports trips around the world, such as skiing, rafting, and kayaking etc”

Its a nice advert, but full time regulars could not get the time to do the expeditions.

Your either preparing for deployment, on deployment, or recovering from deployment getting ready to prepare for your next deployment.

I speak from 30 years experience of it !!

About 35 years ago Billy Connolly wrote a song containing the line "All your talk of computers ,sunshine and skis, well Im asking you seargeant ,wheres mine"Once again Im posting the phrase things havent changed much.

Positions are “Movements Operator”.The expeds were in discretion of your officer in charge,if you were struggling to get through the exams, the may not let you away on trips, during training at Brize.I found the formaulae and calculations on floor loading intensities a bit hard, and you would have do demonstrate what you learnt in a mock aircraft,in a hangar,(before let loose on multi million pound tax payers aircraft),in a series of practical exams. After Basic recruit training, whereby flown by helicopter to a MATZ area, its roughing it in a chicken shed, food and water rations, mock battle scenarios, camouflage instruction,no sleep, radio and comms instruction, practice of night vision awarness, guard and fire duty.Use of real bullets, under supervision of the DS.Roles after training can be postings to Canada,USA,Ascension Islands,Falklands,or anywhere required to make a team to un load and re load any type of aircraft,in a certain time period, using computers to work out load positioning, and mental calculations,as different floor areas have different areas of strength.Cargo can be tanks, helicopters, spare parts, ammo, missiles, explosives, parachute regiment troops, special forces, medical staff, injured personel, wherby confirgurations to role switching in the aircrafts equipment to carry stretchers etc.Attend an open day at Brize, have a chat and tea or coffee with 4624 recruitment.

You can still keep your driving job,and get paid to serve in any Reserve forces,Royal Navy reserve,Royal Marine Reseves, and TA,and SAS reserves. The law allows employers to get paid while you are away on training or called up to hostile areas for deployment duties. On the movements course you get qualifications on use of air side equipment.Exams in use of cargo nets, writen tests.Exams in use of tie down restraints, practical and written, exams in anti rotational restraint to resist forces of gravity in normal flight conditions, crash and emergency landings, and turbulence.Forward, lateral and rear calculations for gravital forces,to restrain cargo.Lorry drivers are very to join,as in training use of chains and restraint straps are taught. It is a hard course, and you meet people from all walks of life, and most become friends for life.Social life is excellent, once past the basic recruit training, free use of gym, pool, and all other sports facilities. You can even try and get a private pilots licence,at greatly reduced rates, taught by airline pilots at RAF Brize Norton flying club. Some of my squadron attained marine course certificates. There a lot of exams to pass, and you get 2 to 3 attempts, then you have to start all over again at the week you failed on,while your mates carry on and get tasked to Norway or East Africa, with luxury hotels thrown in to the package.Three meals a day, accomodation provided. It will be required to keep your uniform tidy, ironed everyday and boots polished.Daily room inspections and parades is what you have to do,and salute officers when on duty.Work with air forces from around the world, such as the USAF.Fitness to a high standard.Tax free bounty, that increases every year, plus payments if posted overseas.Reduced bar on site, plenty of time to have drinks with nightclub on site.
