Radio reception on the M6 and M74

Has anyone else noticed a drop in radio reception on the M6 north west England and parts of the M74 to Glasgow.
Maybe it’s just me and my radio, btw it’s in a new Actros.

You mean the M6 from north of preston till around lockerbie on the 74?
I used to do trunks from Glasgow to Liverpool and in this area I could only get classic fm or radio 1 (the static on the other stations was a better choice than these two!).
I think its just a bad signal area in general

Yes spot on Snowman, but I think it used to be better than what I’m getting now.

Always get a loss of signal between those hills before J38, only for a mile or so, whether in my car or any truck, every time.

The signal up there has never been the best but couple that to the bloody atrocious radio in the new Actros and you have the perfect recipe for either static or putting a cd on. I can’t believe just how bad the reception is nationwide in the Actros I drive. I spend a lot of time routing the music from my phone through the truck as I can’t be bothered waiting for it to auto seek. :imp:

try living in the area , :frowning: choice of listening is very limited . not just reception coming and going, but whats available is generally very poor . if I’m getting towards Carlisle I tune into west sound fm 96.5 , 97., 103mhz they play a mixed selection without a great load of twaddle unlike radio ■■■■■■■ where some of the presenters like the sound of their own voice :frowning:

I’ve just finished a shift and come up the m6 from j40 back to Glasgow in a new MAN and never had a bit of bother with radio 1. Don’t have any issues when I’m in my Actros either.

Edit. Just noticed snowman said radio 1 is OK. That’s all I’ll listen to if on a long run so can’t comment on other stations.

Doesn’t seem to matter where you are, you could be driving oast a remote Siberian outpost and you’ll still manage to pick up Classic.

A.

Only listen to radio 1 when Clyde 1 goes out of range.[emoji3] We’re doing the scottish Poundworld deliveries from now till Christmas. Down to Normanton to pick up a loaded decker and back. Normally do every 2nd Sunday but he asked me to do today instead. That was probably one of the Prestwick trucks that run Airbus wings you passed.

think I will give up flying then if you lot are moving wings   has your merc packed up again if you where in a M.A.

No. Merc is fine. I started at 6am so it wasn’t back off the night trunk. So it was either use a MAN or a CF. MAN won it hands down.[emoji12]

Lancaster to Glasgow i call the black hole, the mad hatter traffic is gone away, no radio reception, the motorway lights are turned off
at night, no cars and lorries for miles, it is a tad ghostly and I get that haunted feeling like Sleepy Hollow, expecting a headless horseman to ride past in the dark fields.

You swine

I get the same in those areas and the A90 between Perth and Dundee. The Actros reception is pretty weak at the best of times even nearby interference such as a phone charger being plugged in can scramble it

As an update I’ve found the problem, in which the SaintAndy is spot on, mobile phone chargers or in my case the power for the dashcam which is from one of the dash sockets is causing the radio to lose signal, when the radio loses it’s signal unplugging the dashcam brings the radio immediately back to life and I’ve tried this numerous times, it’s interfering with the radio. Since finding this out I put another power lead on, a standard usb charger and it cures the problem.
wonder if MB Trucks are aware of this problem and are keeping it quiet, because if 2 drivers are getting this problem, then thousands more must be.

I dont think they’ll bother about having to “keep it quiet” because to be fair, losing the radio reception because something is plugged into the ■■■ lighter is hardly up there along side the Volkswagon emission scandal

I just came from Inverness down the a82 and the m6 after a few days jollies, in the wife’s new shape clio, radio 2 was near non existent, close call but managed to get bluetooth on and my phone music before hers and her chattering
See it could be worse having no signal
