The word “racist” is thrown around so many times that it has actually lost all meaning. Whenever a left winger is feeling themselves losing the argument they simply accuse their opponent of being racist and continue to say so till they feel they have “won”.

What many people forget is that there are many forms of racism, and in my opinion some are acceptable in a free speech country (which ours is allegedly is, though I sometimes have my doubts). For example, I feel it acceptable to say things like “I dont trust foreigners” or “I dont want any immigrants to come to my country” since this is someones opinion. Whether you feel it right or wrong or if you disagree or not, a person is entitled to their opinion and should not be afraid to express it simply because society deems it wrong. It only becomes wrong if said person becomes aggressive and threatening violence to anyone because of it, or when they start to use insults based solely on someones nationality/skin colour
My own opinions on immigration would see me branded racist by anyone who sits on the left wing. I am not against immigrants coming here but only if they bring some sort of work skill with them eg doctor. I am hugely opposed to the open door “yes come on in and bring your family, heres a benefits claim form and a house” policy we have at present. I am not racist in its actual description but having any opinion of anyone of different nationality/skin colour which isnt 100% positive sees you brandedit regardless and vilified by others, most of whom could make it a national sport to be offended simply for something to be offended about.
The other problem we have now is reverse racism. I use the police force as a perfect example. Say they have openings for 50 new officers and 200 people apply. After the exams, the top 50 applicants best suited to move to the next stage are white. This is pure coincidence. How ever, to avoid being “racist” they need to have a set number of minority candidates. There for, around 15-20 white applicants are denied the chance to progress and 15-20 minority candidates get through, even though they are not the best suited. Even though the whites were better qualified, the minorities go through due to the colour of their skin. The irony of that fact absolutely blows my mind. It is the very definition of racism to use skin color as a reason to promote someone ahead of a better candidate yet it is acceptable in this form. Can you imagine the outcry if the top 50 were black yet 20 were held back to allow lesser qualified white people to go through? We’d never hear the end of it.
In the rush to be seen as fair, anyone who dares to say anything the moral majority feel is ok is instantly branded as a racist neo ■■■■ and dismissed as not worth listening to. My example above I have brought up with people only for them to start rabbiting on about the racist police force and the way it treats blacks. They ignore what I say and instead call the whole force racist because that suits them better.
Deiseldog made a very good point in his opening sentence. Organise a rally to promote black power and they’ll call you an activist. Organise a rally to promote ■■■■■■■■■■■ and they’ll brand you racist and put you in jail.
I guess my point is that yes, you’re right Peter. The word racist is used far to much and thrown around by people who dont actually understand what it actually means and instead use it when it suits them
I was in a shop the other day run by an Asian,a bloke come in and asked for something and the shop owner answered him,this bloke said pardon because he didn’t catch what he said so the shop keeper accused him of being racist because he didn’t understand his Asian accent…hardly makes someone racist does it,only in the eyes of those that love to accuse everyone of being a racist.

Which is just a stage in the inevitable eventual claim by the immigrant communities for self determination based on ethnic national identity.At which point it all turns into the Sudetenland,Northern Ireland,Ukraine,and Yugoslav etc etc type of scenario.
My point has been made very succinctly by some posters. It’s not just Engerland, it’s here in Oz too. It’s a shame the silent majority don’t get up to be counted, but then they’d probably be put down with water cannon and rubber bullets.
