R & M Contracts on New Vehicles

we are in the process of looking to buy or lease 2 new 6 wheel drawbar hook loaders for a new contract we have won.we are loooking at getting renault landers as we have them already, have had no problems with them & have the infomax software program to see how the vehicles are driven,i have also done the driver training program with renault

as i am having a lot of input on the new vehicles i am unsure as to wether to go for a full R&M package or a maxi plan.
the trucks come with 2 years warranty anyway, the R&M on a 150k per annum truck is about £650 the maxi plan is £160,we still get servicing & inspections included in that but it will only cover parts if they break,it doesn’t cover natural wear & tear.
we are working on the fact that the vehicle shouldn’t need anything doing to it in the first 2 years anyway so what we will save on not paying the extra £500 a month on a full r&m will cover the next 3 years worth of parts & labour
now as this is the first time i have had a lot do with buying trucks i don’t want to [zb] it up & cost the company a lot of money!!
we are planning on keeping it 5 years & will be doing around 150 k’s a year, all on m.way-dual carriegway.

are R&M packages the best deal around or is it worth just paying for the trucks repairing as we go.

i have ordered 2 new tri axle ro ro trailers from wheelbase already,i have had them specced to our needs & that went fine as i asked a lot of advice from the firm that services all our trailers already as they will be servicing these as well.

i would appreciate any advice from more experienced people

thanks

John

when a vehicle is on full R&M, it is surprising how little they find needs fixing

when a vehicle is not on full R&M, it is surprising how much they find :open_mouth:

that said, if you have a major breakdown, it can be worth it, although, you would normally get 2 years full warranty with the new vehicle anyway

R&M one of the road haulage industries great rip off’s I have a Renault it has done 922,000 k’s so far I have replaced the radiator.

Pay the extra 2k. For the 4 year warranty think its called expandy or something similar too that.
I have a 3year old premium covered by this warranty and recently got spring bushes and exhaust manifold done no quibbles from Renault at all.

Warranty guy at our delearship reckons 97% of vehicle is covered for 4 years only pads discs and.clutch are defo not covered.

imho take extra warranty from new and pay for servicing as you go…

i got the rep to mail me the details of that cover.for the maxi cover we need up to 600,000 km’s over 5 years it is £6075.
we have a 58 plate lander that’s done 280,000km’s & is still going strong, nothing major reported on it…

Standard tractor unit certainly not that expensive yours being more specialised might push price up?? Don’t know which dealer you deal with but have found Stephen Whitehead at Carlisle to be a top bloke he might be worth a call…

Thats exactly what Ive done. R&M worked out very expensive. Extra 2 year warranty worth every penny especially on a mixer

cheers for the replys.
at the moment we are looking at a servicing plan called a ‘Maxi Plan’ costs about £200 a month as we need it to cover us for 150k per year, covers all inspections, manufacturers services,MOT prep & tests, collection & delivery but no parts, however after doing a few calculations,we we will save nearly 15k in 2 years by not having a full R&M package, take out another year or 2 warranty & we should still save a few quid to cover the repairs as & when they crop up.
final decision will be made tomorrow as we need to order the truck,as we need it asap…
