I think most blokes develop Selective Memory over the years. Saves having to remember stupid, uninteresting things like the colour she’s chosen for the new curtains, where she told you to plant those flowers and who’s died this week in Corrie, Stenders, Ermindale, etc.

God knew the craic he made old married men hard of hearing as a good excuse for just about everything she tells you n you,ve forgot. Praise the Lord !

I think i qualify on that score coomsey , I have a matching pair of hearing aids . at the best part is the ability to discretely switch them off when she has a whinge on , they make good earplugs and if she twigs on I can say the battery has run out . Dave

N here I am Dave resisting getting a set of aids ■■!!

Just heard that Jack Hanson died a few weeks ago

Sadly John ( Jack) Hanson died just before Christmas and was laid to rest Jan 13th 2017. He was a true pioneer of the road haulage business and in his heyday must have had one of the largest haulage firms in Yorkshire if not the largest. He was one of the best customers of Atkinson vehicles, so much so they presented him with the 20000th chassis, which has been restored into its original livery, Sutton’s of St Helens had 10000th chassis but sadly this is in the big scrapyard in the sky. There are a couple of R Hanson vehicles awaiting restoration but as we all know they take a lot of time and money to fully restore.

I’m sure this question, and the answer, is already on here somewhere, but I’ll ask it anyway.

Is this the Hanson’s that was owned by the father of Lord Hanson, or was that another company altogether?

John.

That was the other hanson from huddersfield , did a lot of work out of ICI deighton .

This photo is from my Flickr site. It was one of the first 8 wheeler Atkinson’s in the fleet of R Hanson. The regular driver was Kenny Ball.

Kenny Ball remember him well, Derek Russett, Jack Gelder, Wilf Crosland, Bert Taylor, Tommy Porter. Bob Douglas, George Hemingway, George Watson, Pete Everett (Ferret) Ernest Layccock,
the list goes on n on
Aiden (The painter) Eric Smith (the fitter)

I lived across the road from Ernest Laycock, when i was on my school hols I went miles with him LHL 660 4 wheeler Atki. Then he went onto 8 wheelers. David Tindall lived on the old lane Hall Green. I seem to recall Pete Everett was killed in an accident? His son went to the same school.

Where did you live opposite Ernest Laycock as there were no houses opposite down Beech View

Correct me if I’m wrong but the green Hanson tippers were R. Hanson & Son which from what I recall was “Robert” and Lord Hanson’s Brother was called Robert ! and wasn’t their father called Bob Hanson ? So where did Jack Hanson come into the picture, he must have been a great age when he passed away in January surely. Cheers Bewick.

I think the “R” in R Hanson & Son stood for Reginald and John (Jack) was his son Hence R. Hanson & Son
Jack Hanson was pushing 90 when he died just before christmas
