Hi Fallmonk, its Cliffy who is my mate. He’s 72 now and he has just about finished driving, i don’t personally know wizzo but i know Cliffy is still in regular contact with him. I’ve just discovered all my pics from the photobucket album are now defunct. Cliffy has asked me to scan up some pics for him to upload to a Facebook group so i may get the chance to re scan these ones and get them back up…cheers.

I think the A-Series is ex-Ritsons from Kirkby - I might be wrong.
i think the a series ERF used to belong to john jarvis ( marsden motors) from jamaca street l,pool 8 used to fruit markets did you work for bobby larkin
top photos there, that silver grey globetrotter featured in one of them trucking class mags back in the 80,s
That B-Series 6-wheeler looks very similar to one that Blundell & Rimmer had on market work.
Then again, Dobsons from Scarisbrick as well as R&J Wright from Tarleton both had one as well…
Shame theres no picture of Larkin’s B-series tractor with the 240 in it. I used to see it nearly every day back and forwards to Bow Lane at Preston.

And am I right in thinking that Bob Larkin was a driver for Bowker’s Liverpool Depot before setting up on his own?

yeah Bobby drove for Bowkers. He was RA larkin. RJ larkin was based down by Jamaica St and done mainly containers.

I asked and you’re right, it did.
Hi,
Just stumbled across this while in work, My dad use to drive for larkins in the 80s and early nineties, these pics bring back some great memories as a young lad I’ve been in and practice driving in most of these trucks in the pics, the 2800 daf with the reg B114 GRC was my old man’s, spent many a school holiday on the fruit markets, Wizzo, cliffy, Graeme the tank, Barry, bob larkin, bumper bar bob and the rest made me have the best child hood !!!
I never did get to have Volvo F10 reg 5Y as my own as bob Larkin promised as they unfortunately went bump, but I did eventually pass my license and followed in my old man’s footsteps
It did come Jarvises, it was blue as I remember. It had a 220 Cummins in it with a David Brown box and I remember uprating it to 250hp with new injectors and adjusting the travel on the cam. I worked in Rainfords in Aintree and we used to do “outside” work, ie: not Rainford’s fleet. The driver took it away and when he came back for a service we asked him how it was performing and he just gave us the thumbs up and said “72mph”.
Larkins also had a Merc 1617 that they added a tag axle to for 24ton, that was a nice motor. He bought a Merc 1626 off George Davis and he got ripped off with it. We left it idling in the yard to warm up just after he’d bought it and when we came to bring it in for inspection there were two huge pools of oil under each ehxaust downpipe. New pistons, liners, overhauled heads, big ends and mains required before he put it to work, costly job.
