Quirky drivers hours regs

Had a week off last week due to illness, went back to work Monday. You’d think that I’ve had plenty of rest, but as far as the regs go, as I see it, the week off counts as a SINGLE weekly rest period. It went over three fixed weeks, yet I can only count it as one regular rest, technically. Which means I have to choose to use it as a regular rest in just one of the weeks. Am I right about that?

Of course, I did manage to do a few minutes other work (timesheets etc.) at intervals, so I did get three regular rests out of it

Any single rest period of 69 hours or more may be counted as two back to back rest periods if required. So in this case your single rest period can be counted as two rest periods.

So yes - it does seem a bit quirky.

Example
finish week 1 on Saturday
off week 2
start week 3 on Monday
The first 45 hours off are a regular weekly rest for week 1
The last 45 hours off are a regular weekly rest for week 3
The rest of the hours in between can be the regular weekly rest for week 2 if you like

No you’re not right, as shep532 said the rest can be counted as 2 back to back weekly rest periods.

The first 45 hours count as a regular weekly rest period for the last week you worked before the week off, and because you re-started work on Monday the last 45 hours of the rest period can be counted as a regular weekly rest period for this week.

Ok, makes sense…just wasn’t aware. I read that a (i.e. one) weekly rest is any period of rest over 24 (or 45) hours. Didn’t know they could be back to back.
