Quickie question

Company just bought a 10t lorry. Boss only has 7.5t license. Can he have a drive in it (no load) just to see what it drives like?

No.

He can, so long as it isn’t on a public highway.

Legally of course he can’t. It does beg the question as to why he’d buy it and only once he’d parted with the money decide that it needs a test drive? However, if he’s insistent on driving it and as nowadays we’re policed almost entirely by robots/cameras I’d say go for it, the chances of getting pulled are minuscule.

He’s only drove the 7.5 in extreme emergencies. He found the light and the pathway to heaven by hiring me. Needed a new lorry and the extra gives us more options. He simply would like a try. I’ll video it for him!

It is a good idea but be sure to check that he’ll be insured to drive the vehicle.

Can only do that if he has CAT C provisional entitlement. C1, full or otherwise, won’t allow him to.

He could drive an artic if he wanted…its just the minor problem of police stopping him or having an accident that might rain on parade.

Tell him to get his class C, then he can have the freedom to drive whenever he wants inc when you ask for a brand new rigid with a V8 and threaten to go on strike if it doesn’t include full light bars and a coffee machine, frilly curtains and extra loud airhorn.
