Is it possible to add your own POI place marks directly from the device. Say I went to a new customer, could I create a POI for that location like I used to be able to on my old car tomtom just by pressing an icon and naming it?
My garmin doesn’t do it, and I haven’t yet found how or if you can do it on the cheap Chinese one I recently bought.
Favourites often have a limited number though, usually around 150, and as I have over 3000 regular customers, it’s not much use. POI’s tend to be unlimited. I have a database from my old tomtom with about 2300 customer POI’s on which I can use, but I want to be able to add other customers to it as and when I visit them.
I only add favourites to the very regular drops i do. eg, Tesco Purfleet etc.
You can definatly do the POI thing thou, i have done it on mine. Ive added one for deliveries, and one for decent lay-by’s
If i was in my lorry i would let you know how to do it, but im at home.
Im sure someone will tell you soon thou.
(it must have been easy as i figured it out by myself!)
Yes iirc go to add poi use the add current location or you can add it as favourite(slightly quicker) then when you have time add favourite to poi collection
Awesome, thanks. On my old tomtom I used to have an icon on the screen that you could press and it would add the current location as a POI, but as long as there is a method on the device itself, that’s good enough. On the garmin you have to download a separate program to the pc and then add POI’s that way, which is just stupid.
On the 5150 you can still have the one-button solution (but only to add as a Favourite).
Tap the screen, then tap Settings, then tap Right-arrow until you see “Make Your Own Menu”. Tap this, and follow the prompts to add “Add Position to Favourites” to your custom menu.
If this is the only item on your Custom menu, it will appear directly on your main navigation screen, bit if you have more than one item, they will be accessible as a sub-menu via a single on-screen icon.
As mentioned, this will add the location as a Favourite - but you can only have a limited number of Favourites. If you have lots of them, you might want to create a POI category and copy them across.
You can add POI categories on the 5150 like folders, name one customers, another parking spots and so on. When you want to save a customer you select manage poi-add poi-select the folder then select current location then name it, simples.
