sorry if this sounds stupid but im not 100% sure,question is do you need your passport to go into Ireland whilst driving or can you do it with just your licence…
No passport required, unless the ferry company/airline requires it as I.D.
This is true for Northern Ireland/Republic of Ireland/Guernsey/Jersey/Isle of Man etc.
Only used a pastport for p&o ferries liverpool to dublin, and for flying with ryan air, irish ferries and stenna line ive not needed one, and air lingus allow you to use driving licence or another type of photo id, but i always carry my driving licence as you never know when you will need some sort of id for something

It is an offence not to have your driving licence on you whilst driving in the Republic
Op, it may be worth bearing in mind that as Ireland now has the Euro they have of course adopted driving on the right hand side of the road. Not really a problem if you sail straight into the south, but if driving from the north be wary as you cross the border as those switch over points can be a ■■■■■.
