so how many of you O/D do nights away or refuse to ?
This is my first night back since Sunday so yes I do nights away as that’s the only way I can do as much work.
not sure refussing to do anything and being an o/d at the same time is possible!
although theres a lot of work that dosn’t involve nights out.
I normally do one or two, a week, but I try to do them to suit myself, ie meeting up with a couple of mates for a few beers on a thursday etc, I try to avoid truckstops and Motorway services. If I’m somewhere new, a couple of phone ycalls, will normally find me a truck friendly town centre car park, or a La near a pub or sommat
My trips are euro, so i can say where i would like to go , but if im asked to go some where and the price is right, then u dont refuse. I do a “few” nights away, but im lucky to live in the middle of all major south ports, so can pop home for weekly rest periods.
cheers evry1
when i said refuse to i mean do you prefer not to do night away sorry my mistake
when i was O/D i did 3-4 out a week and parked up about 3 on a friday, as i like it that way, the point is, i could decide myself, and also, i never did early starts, which i hate. i worked late instead. it’s nice to be able to run it as you want to run it.

think everyone likes to get home but thats not always possible and not always worth it, the steel work i’ve been on had very few nights out but a lot of the time through the week it was a case of get in, grab something to eat, go to bed and be up eight or nine hours later on the way back to the yard to start again! given the choice of a backload and a night out or getting home i’d have took the backload every time.
I live on my own so having a ight in the cab or on the road makes no odds to me.
There are occaisions when I could go home for the night but the 1 1/2 hours I’d lose getting there & back from my yard I’d rather spend asleep
I do an average of 4 a week and as I have been doing that for the last 19 or so years it is just normal and I do it without even thinking about it. I also sleep better in the truck than I do at home.
