Quick Question - 2 Man run & bed in cab

Doing a 2 man run and was wondering what is the law regarding the bed in the cab, If say I’m driving can the 2nd driver get a sleep in the bed ?

thanks

‘Two men went to mow,…went to mow a meadow’…

ask coffeholic, it was the best job he ever had, until he packed it in not shortly after  but then again he said the same about being an owner driver until he packed that in too, tried writing as well, but don’t think that worked out too well either, says he has got the best ever job now though working in a gym

'Tis alright if you don’t have much of a sense of smell. …

Under the Drivers Hours Regs, you can take a break in a moving vehicle, but not a rest.

I used to spend around half of every shift sleeping on the bunk once my driving stint was over and it was never an issue. I was seen climbing out of the bunk back into the passenger seat by coppers a couple of times but they never did anything about it.

That was the best job I’ve ever had in terms of good money for doing next to nothing, not just when I was doing the double manned runs towards teh end but the whole time with DHL.

Don’t think I ever said that about being an OD, I enjoyed it but it was never the best job and when it got to the point of having to actually work to make it worthwhile it was time for a change.

Wrote one book, made over £10K so far and still get money from it every month for what amounted to a couple of weeks work. I’ll take things not working out for £10K+ :stuck_out_tongue:

This is indeed currently my favourite but it’s less than 20 hours a week in the gym. the rest is teaching classes at five locations in Beds and Herts and also PT sessions for my own clients. I look forward to going to work these days, there’s nothing not to like about it. I like change now and again, much better than just sticking with one thing then complaining about it but doing nothing to change it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Totally legal.

I think there has to be a restriction in net or one of them arm rest type things that stop anything falling forward from the bunk as the legal bit would be not being restrained from forward movement whilst a vehicle is in motion.

Bunks with the webbing which stops the person shooting forward are safer - without such the law could be used to say that a person is being carried in an unsafe manner but prosecution in such cases are rare because they have to prove an imminent danger at the time of being stopped - there was a similar case thrown out in a Leicester court in the last few years where passengers were carried on the unrestrained seats in the living area of a horsebox but there was no actual danger at the time

perfectly ok to use bunk it helps if you are capable of sleeping anywhere as you will feel every bump in the road also hoodie over eyes and ear plugs in

Was that an open cab area Rog? Also you have to take into consideration that your normally sitting with a bulk head between you and the driver but in the cab you only have the seat as a restraint
