Happy easter trucknetters

ok down to my question , being new to digi tachos . im pretty much learning as i go along
, was using my newly aquired c+e doing an artic run to newcastle upon tyne . The unit was a siemens fitted to a 56 plate daf cf .
I was under the impression that with 15 mins driving time left (before a break required ) the unit should give you a warning … this didnt happen … . when stationary I pressed the down key and i had fve minuites left before i needed a break ,by the time i was at the next layby i was 3 minuites over
.
Anyway is there a reason the “15 min to go warning” didnt flash up , i guess the unit was one of the first digi tachos so maybe the early ones didnt have that feature ■■
Cheers Mike
As far as I am aware they don’t have to warn you just that your hours are up and you should keep an eye on your driving hours although visa do understand why you were over stuck on a motorway they will say you should have pulled up earlier and still fine you
. Anyone actually used a similar age siemens tacho ? not much point replying graham was there
cheers Mike
Alright mikey, I dont know the answer to your question as im quite new to digis myself as in my job im exempt from tachos but im posting to say ive downloaded a programme on my computer that simulates all the major tachos in real world circumstances its completely free its all interactive so you click on what you would press it tells you when your doing things wrong and gives you loads of little tips about different units if your interested in giving it a try just type into google ( digital tachograph simulator) and youll find it… I think its worth a look at for anyone new to these units and I can say the unit on there does give you a warning 15 mins before you need a break… in the situation you was in I would have done a print out when you stopped explained your mistake on the back and signed it and vosa would have been fine with that im sure as long as its not a regular thing and it was only 3 mins so I wouldnt worry about that
Thanks Sam , i will look up the tacho simulator
. i did try to do a printout, but it didnt want to play ball
having looked in the print roll compartment afterwards the paper hadnt been fed thru properly .
Anyway when i get in tomorrow im gonna try to do a" retrospective printout"
I very much doubt vosa will be worried about a 3 min runover …
cheers Mike
The firm I’m currently with have this brand of Digi on same age range of MAN’s. on some units the Digi flashes to warn that you have 15mins left & others don’t, as like you I’ve discovered when manually checking to suddenly see I have a couple of mins left !! I’m assuming its either a setting you can set yourself or its something when the units are first fitted.
I’ve no idea why the tachograph didn’t give the 4¼ hours driving warning, but if you press “OK” when the vehicle is moving you can see how much driving you’ve accumulated since the last time the driving time was reset to 4½ hours.
Here’s a link to the digital tachograph simulator and lots more stuff to do with digital tachographs
Doesn’t the warning disappear after a minute, only to reappear intermittently? It might be working if this is the case.
Cheers boo and tachograph , i will ask the driver whos truck it used to be tomorrow , what the score is with it re. the 15 min(driving time) left warning .
some very usefull info there re the operation of digi tachos
i seem to remember a post a good while back about a tacho guide or simulator, as an app for i phone or android phone ?
cheers Mike

Some of our 58 plate scanias have this feature, there the only ones ive come across.
JG
Hi james , which feature are you talking about? i.e. they do have the 15 min driving time available ,or they have no warning before your 4.5 hours is up?
cheers Mike

Hi no 100% sure but when i was last driving a 58 plate it flashed up saying “4.5 hour driving time up” or something along those lines, i think it flashes up at 4 hours and 15 mins so you have 15 mins to stop, i think mine flashed up at 9.45 and my driving time was up at 10.
I will try and take a photo next time as im out in a 58 plate on tuesday
