Dover MP Nathalie Elphicke asked a question at PMQ today.
youtube.com/watch?v=rgSIINsXoDA
About 33-00…
“Dover is once again beset by traffic jams of miles”.
Johnson didn`t contradict that. He seemed to agree with her that the traffic was all the fault of the EU.
Elphicke “Not the fault of Brexit, but Brussels bureaucracy”
Of course!
Who could possibly have guessed that introducing a new trade border, that leaving a common customs area, could in any way have meant more bureaucracy?
What a shock!
Next week she is to sit her SATS stage one, in which she will be expected to answer-- How many do, two plus two, make?
I reckon she might struggle with that.
Always thought the Financial Times was a leave supporting newspaper, so this from them is a surprise:
Channel ports such as Dover could “grind to a halt” for both traders and travelers this summer as the result of post-Brexit border controls, the UK’s leading logistics trade body has said.
The warnings followed the publication on Wednesday of a House of Commons report that was highly critical of the government’s management of the UK border after Brexit, accusing it of “overpromising” and failing to hit its own deadlines.
Sarah Laouadi, the organisation’s head of European policy, said the forthcoming Entry/Exit System could have “a severe impact” on waiting times at the Channel ports of Dover and Folkestone.
She cited independent modeling that projected queues of up to 29 miles as a result of potential delays caused by new controls.
The 27-page report from the Commons public accounts committee said the government had promised that Brexit would free British businesses, enabling them to maximise productivity, but the reality had proved very different since January 2021.
“The only detectable impact so far is increased costs, paperwork and border delays,” said Dame Meg Hillier, who chairs the committee. “It’s time the government was honest about the problems [of Brexit] rather than overpromising.”
I dip into this thread now again and I see no change. The usual bedwetters still crying over losing the fight.
Guys, do you not realise how pathetic you look with your constant search and posting off negative effects of Brexit?

‘could’…
The word could has been used. In other words, the article is little more than a clairvoyants prediction.

Note the use of the word projected.
Whispers, your obsession with making something out of nothing is bordering on ridiculous. Give up mate.

Oh Larf, I wish I could

I long for the day when we see benefits from Brexit, hopefully Jacob Rees Mogg will succeed in his new role to find & create some Brexit benefits.

Sometimes I think that ^^^^ I then simply click onto my online banking and the benefit is there in black and white.

Not exactly a…
Brexit benefit but a benefit all the same. Fakebook might well pull the plug in Europe. Yay.

I can agree with that maoster, but for the majority they don’t have that luxury.
Knowing the Industry they’ll be looking at the Brexit Benefits we’ve been promised and before long Slobodan will be replaced by Agarwal, Bakshi, Banerjee and Gupta.
Looking at Indeed https://in.indeed.com/career/truck-driver/salaries The average salary for an Indian truck driver is ₹14,967 per month. which is 147.85 British Pounds.

Looking at the future.?
.
An independent Parliamentary committee has reported on what has happened so far.
No projections.
.
A Pro Brexit Tory MP has been complaining today in PMQs about lorry jams in Dover. No projections.
.
But don’t let reality get in the way chaps!
.
PS. Mild weather for February innit?
Doubtless due to Brexit.
went past dover docks yesterday coming from the a2 at about 5pm. one lorry was in front of me and turned straight into the docks. 2 ferries were loading with maybe 20 waggons waiting to board. the unattended park had maybe 40 trailers in it. However, on the a20 out of dover lorries were queueing from the last rounderbout on the a20 leaving dover to the top of samphire hoe. dunno why from what i could see there was no reason

To clarify:
You entered Dover on the A2 and left on the A20?
On your way out of Dover, you saw the queue of lorries going towards Dover?

yes but the important bit was the port was 3/4 empty with no queue into it. queue didnt start until after the last rounderbout out of dover

The pinch point isnt the parking and waiting area to board the ferries. It is the controls on the way in. The issue is the time taken to enter that waiting area. If there is a delay there, although it
s clear beyond, the queue will block up Dover town.
So traffic is held on the A20, and is trickled through, so there is a steady short queue at the entry, and it doesnt jam the public roads. Letting the trucks on the A20 through, wouldn
t flow in and fill up the ferry area, it would come to a halt at the controls and block the town.

Channel ports could ‘grind to a halt’ over Brexit border checks
A leave supporting paper? [emoji1787]

Is truck driving on the skills list?
And is that your real issue? Slobodan was at least white?

Missing the point again Monkey !!
The issue is the supposed benefit of ending Free Movement was the ending of the import of cheap labour.
But now we have a Government so desperate to strike trade deals to justify their leave promises that the import of cheap labour is now part of their sweetener for trade deals.
Personally, I have great respect and liking for the people of India, having lived amongst them, worked with them and learn’t from them as a teenager.
I would rather have them moving to Cornwall than some of those from within the UK, whose contribution to our communities has - to put it kindly - not been particularly beneficial.

One of the SUPPOSED benefits?
It did indeed end importation of cheap Labour.
Let me know when we conclude a free movement agreement with any other State who’s colour you dislike. The potential relationship with Indus certainly wasn’t based on FoM but a relaxation (relaxation not removal) of BUSINESS visas.
Til then you haven’t got a point beyond the one I’ve accused you of
