Queue jumpers.

Im a youngster, yea happens alot round london to me yea its annoying.I Iook at it like this its not worth getting stressed over.Your not going to gain anything + he’s not gonna pay your wages.

If I weren’t such a bad tempered [zb] I would still have a nice little job. So be warned.

A few years ago when they were making the A1 into a motorway about 5 of us on Russell Davis were queing to go in roadworks when a car came up the outside lane and tried to push in . Our driver nearest the cones moved a couple of them and gestured the driver into the closed lane .When he was stuck in the coned off lane we all carried on and left him there .Revenge is sweet :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

If the queue is a mile long, then using the empty lane and “zip” system will halve the queue, so it makes sense to do it. The ones who really get my back up are the lorry drivers who use their bulk to block the empty lane, leaving half a mile of empty road. That is pure selfish stupidity, and I have reported drivers for it. They can, and should, be done for obstuction.

I’ve seen this happen in Belgium, traffic queing down the hard shoulder to exit at a busy exit, late breakers travel down lane 1 and push their way in at the last possible moment, but what these people haven’t seen is the Belgian plod stood at the junction taking down their registration number in order to send them a penalty notice in the post! OK it’s mostly the big flash car drivers and they can no doubt afford the fine but it makes me laugh.

Creates a bottle neck tho, so considerably slows the flow of traffic down.

You know the sort, always in the wrong lane until the last second, too impatient to queue like the majority of us. Judging by this week, if you jump the queue & try & cut in in front of me at the last second…i’ll let you in. I’m talking about ‘professional’ drivers now, not car drivers.

I have to admit, in days gone by i’d be thinking, [zb] off you cheeky [zb] & closed the gap, then make a few hand gestures to let them know my thoughts on their driving. However, twice this week i’ve been the victim of queue jumpers, & both times i’ve let them in, no gestures or histrionics, just a shrug of the shoulders & a raised eyebrow.

I hit the big 5 0 later this year & i’m just wondering if getting old means i’m turning into a soft touch, or is it a sign of maturity?

What do you do when the same thing happens to you?

I agree about not getting wound-up,the sensible thing to do is stay calm and get on with your life unless you never make mistakes or do anything wrong yourself.

Having said that I think you need to explain the situations your talking about more clearly, as others have said some people get wound-up over drivers using available road space rather than queueing unnecessarily and on the face of it it looks like that’s what you could be talking about.

Ok, here’s what happened, i’m on the M4 w/b on the inside lane approaching the M4/M5 split, for those that don’t know, the inside lane bears left for the M5, lanes 2 & 3 continue on as the M4. As i said, i’m in the correct lane to go s/b on the M5, there’s a queue going back about a mile & its stop/start but no big delay, 2 mins max, just as i reach the turn off, alongside me comes a fully laden car transporter, he gets his nose just in front, then indicates to pull in.

The 2nd occasion was similar, this time on the M25, anti approaching junction 17 or 18, its a 4 lane section, the inside lane is a dedicated lane & bears off, the other 3 lanes continue on as M25. It was busy, stop/start/crawl, i’m in lane 2 continuing on round the M25, just at the point where lane 1 splits off an artic tipper comes up the inside & pulls in.

In the past i’d have been a tad miffed, nowadays it don’t seem to bother me at all.

As for a coned off section of highway, i’m in the merge in turn camp & people using the closed lane right up to the cones is, IMO, the correct way.

I used to get angry and jump up and down, but these days I won’t even get into a row with people on the road. I now just poke my tougher out or in certain cases blow a kiss, 9 out of 10 this ends the shouting and can result in laughter. Life far to short

I’ve often considered this.

Does it make any difference if the bottle neck happens a mile away from the cones when people see the lane closure sign and all try to change lane, or if the bottle neck happens at the cones and everyone merges there? Personally I keep going until the lane has a red X in it or I reach the cones.

For other situations, sometimes people make genuine mistakes. I sat in a lane that had a forward arrow (I wanted to go forward), but without warning it turned in to a left turn only lane. The morry lorry driver next to me deliberately blocked me so I had to turn left. Didn’t matter too much as I got back on the motorway with only a few minutes delay. It just bugged me that the morry lorry driver knew I had made a mistake and took pleasure from forcing me to either take a wrong turn or hold up traffic whilst I waited for a gap.

Some people thrive on seeing others make mistakes.

Good. And hanging is too good for them.

Another “professional” driver who doesn’t know how zip merging is supposed to work… :unamused: :unamused:

YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO USE BOTH LANES UNTIL THE PINCH POINT AND THEN MERGE IN TURN.

I just have a big sign on my front grille with the word [zb] in reverse font, so that’s all they see as they smugly glance in their mirror.

Ha ha, why is it the people that say “Bring back hanging” are the same people that say “hanging’s too good for them”.
Make your right-wing minds up.

As torture contravenes the Geneva convention hanging is the best we can hope to ever be reinstated, so whilst it may not be good enough for some people, in the unlikely event that it is ever reinstated it will have to do.

Sometimes you just have to settle for second best :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t say bring back hanging, and my comment was made tongue in cheek. How anyone could seriously believe that I would be in favour of capital punishment for what is, effectively, a minor indiscretion.

You should merge before the pinch point, slows the flow of traffic considerably because of the bottle neck effect.

You’re not in favour of capital punishment for driver misdemeanour’s !! … that’s disappointing :frowning:

Lane blockers are one of the most irritating things on the road.

That and when your boxers crease up the inside of your leg.
