Questions x 3

1 You turn up tp pick up a trailer when you check your notes and weigh bridge ticket you see that the total weight on the bridge when loaded was 44 100 is this acceptable to vosa or should you refuse to take it i think read somewhere there is a tolerence but wether that applies when theres weigh tickets available imm not sure

2 On a 55 reg daf xf under the lower bunk theres a electical wire with a conecter on it any one any idear what it is maybe a power lead if so would it be 12 0r 24 volt ?

3 I have a 300 w pwer inverter 12 volt to dc (its an older one so only runs off 12 volt ) i thnk but when i pluged it in the 12 volt socket the power light lit up but then it whistled and then faded tried a freinds and exactley the same thing hapend

Any help with the above appreateated cheers lads

Probably for the fridge so likely to be 24V. To check, if you haven’t got a meter, get a 24V bulb and a couple of wires and connect the bulb to the wire under the bunk. If the bulb glows bright it’s 24V if it glows dimly then it’s 12V.

Sounds like it is trying to draw more current than the socket is rated for. If you are plugging it into a cigarette lighter socket that will most likely be rated at only 5 or 10 amps and your inverter will be drawing more than that, particularly on start up. 300 Watts/12v = 25 Amps if it was working to it’s maximum.

Our weighbridges run the following tolerances (not sure how legal they are, something to do with % tolerances?)
44ton…44400
32ton…32300
26ton…26260
18ton…18200
We don’t have anything smaller so our weighbridge men let the drivers take what they want as the ops can’t be expected to know what pickups, 4x4 with trailers etc gross weights are-this is guidance from VOSA when they’ve brought in people for checks.

the DAF XF does not have a 12v plug as standard, are you sure you plugged it into 12v not 24v?

as for number 2, if it is a space cab, it will be for the option fit fridge, standard fit on a superspace

On mine the cigarette lighter socket is 12 volts and rated at 5 amps with the Hella socket on the other side being 24 volts and 15 amps.

answer to question1,try to get it reweighed.

The weighbridge ticket is only applicable to the vehicle reg.
