Hi all
I am new on this forum so excuse me if my question is answered somewhere else - I am not so good at searching
For those who have moved from New Zealand to the UK I am interested to know the procedure to convert your heavy licences.
I have not yet done any heavy licences in NZ but I will be applying for a job in the UK that needs a LGV/PCV licence but will not be driving in ther UK (it is an Overland driver for a tour company). I was wondering if it is cheaper/better to get my licences in NZ and then to convert them to UK licence/International Licence or is it too much of a hassle.
Hopefully I worded my question well enough for you guys to understand what I am asking
Thanks in advance for your help

NZ is one of the15 non EU countries GB does have a reciprocal exchange agreement with for driving licences. However, it only applies to ordinary licences, which means as a visitor you can drive any category of vehicle, up to 3.5 tonnes and with up to eight passenger seats for 12 months from entering the country. As a resident you can drive small vehicles for 12 months and you must exchange your NZ licence for a GB one before this period elapses. If you don’t, you must stop driving until you do exchange your licence and it must be within 5 years of becoming a resident
If you also hold full entitlement to drive large vehicles (trucks or buses) you are only allowed to drive vehicles registered outside GB that you have driven into the country. You cannot convert a ‘heavy’ licence issued in NZ to a UK one, you would need to pass the relevant tests to obtain a GB vocational licence…
So all I would need to do is the tests and not undergo the training again?
Do you know the approximate cost for doing this?
