I just have a class C with no CPC. Am i right in thinking that if i wanted to drive for a living that i will need Mod 2 and 4 to be able to drive for a living?.
Depends when you passed your car test. Yes you need CPC Status, but if you passed your car test pre-1997 and were given C1 with your B category then you are ok to drive commercially until 2014 when you must have taken 35 hours of Periodic CPC training.
If you passed B after 1997 then you have no acquired rights to CPC status and must take Modules 2 and 4 to gain commercial entitlement.
Hope that makes sense

I stand to be corrected but surely it is when he passed C that matters not B
Because if he has C then he either holds grandfather rights till 2014 or he will have done the initial DCPC as part of training. Therefore if he holds C then he can drive a rigid commercially

No Dar was right. (and so are you)
Pre 1997 class B came with grandfather rights to class C1 which comes under the CPC therefore it gives him grandfather rights to the CPC as if he’d had a class C.
So if he’d passed his class B before 1997 but C after Sept 2009 he would still have Grandfather rights to CPC.
Edited cos i’d just re-read jc’s post

as Dar and Schrodingers Cat said, it’s actually when you passed a test that gave you a commercial licence.
For pre-1997 it was the 7.5t licence, for me it was my PSV and HGV licences since I didn’t have 7.5t.
But if I’d had either a 7.5t, a psv or a hgv, all would have counted and I would be ok until 2014.
You should have your initial driver cpc (the blue card) that you got when you passed your C test as I assume you passed recently? But you still have to complete 35 hours buy 2014 I think, but someone please act like tip-ex and correct me if I’m wrong.
I believe you are still allowed to take the C practical driving test without the DCPC element because not everyone needs DCPC examples I believe include fire brigade, mechanics, people driving horse boxes for personal use
Hope this makes sense
Paul
don’t worry about it until sept 2014.
arn’t you a policeman? shouldn’t a policeman know the rules?
is it quite normal for the police not to know about the dcpc malarky dogs muck? yes? then that’s a good thing.
good god, i’m talking to a policeman.
WTF has happened over there FFS ?
In 12 years it’s gone from taking the test, getting the licenece to all this other BS … doesn’t a LGV/ HGV licence count for anything anymore ? I am so glad I don’t drive a dam lorry in the UK anymore.
Should be … you take the test, you get the licence, you drive a damm lorry and thats that.

they imported a box of pricks, then they started to breed.
they started to give licences to ■■■■■■■■■ too. a lot of them come on this site, they make comments regarding how good the driver cpc is, they also say things like trip money is illegal. the sooner the economy picks up the better. then these pricks can [zb] off and leave the driving to those that can do the job.

As has been said it depends on when you got your car licence, basically if you passed your car test before 1997 you should have had cat C1 on your licence before passing cat C in which case you have grandfather rights to the DCPC until 2014.
I’m surprised you wasn’t told by your trainer whether or not you need to do modules 2 and 4 when you trained for the cat C.

You are a muppet Slimyphill. Have you seen the size of the law book? i would suspect that you would be stuck on page one.
Just for you as you seem to not grasp anything i will quote what i have posted.

I passed my car test in 2004 and then passed Cat C 2011. At that time i didn’t want CPC hence why he didn’t mention it
In that case you need/should’ve done mods 2 & 4, THEN you need to complete your periodic CPC (5 x 7 hours) before 2016.

Are you sure that’s correct?
I would have thought the date on the DQC would be the date that part 4 was completed and that the driver would have 5 years from that date to complete the periodic training.

Yes your DQC lasts 5 years from the date you passed Mod4

Cheers guys. That sort of answered my question
