question

Going back to driving after some years. Can anyone tell me please what ‘ad blue’ is?

Also is the fridge run off red diesel?

Never came across the above when I was driving as most trailer fills were done by my counterpart on the next shift…or I am simply getting old and cannot remember:)

An additive sprayed into the exhaust fumes to reduce emissions. Readily available from a pump or in cans and there is a separate tank to fill, it doesn’t go into the fuel tank as some drivers have been known to do.

It can be.

I’m sure the company will tell you, as some keep ad-blue on site, others allow you to get it on your fuel card etc.

Same with the diesel for the fridge, very few places do red (whitwood does, and J38? of the M6 does I think) so they’ll usually have it in the yard and it’ll be a fill after EVERY journey rule rather than when it needs it.

Many thanks for the replies gentlemen.

To add to what has been said, if you drive a vehicle that uses Add-Blue be sure not to run out of it or the vehicle is likely to be limited to a very low speed when the Add-Blue is gone.

I will make sure in that case that I check this first thing. Thanks for the advice.

if you run out of ad blue while out and about you can simply ■■■■ into the tank! Lol

or when the light comes on the dash to say fill up, put some water in it.

I’ve read that putting water in the AddBlue tank can damage the catalyst.

I’ve no idea whether or not it’s true though.

dunno mate to be honest,my motor is still going ok thou! when i say put water in, i dont mean fill it to the brim from near on empty, when my light came on i put around 3-4 ltr’s in. it went down a bit quicker on the gauge than just ad-blue, not a lot quicker thou, but it didnt smoke or show any signs of buggering it up. when i got back to the yard i put around 47 ltr in at the ad-blue tank.

Yeah, it can, also it can cause rust / corrosion on the injector nozzle and other issues.

Considering how far a tank of ad-blue goes, you shouldn’t really run out… BUT, I have
