I know the answer now, but had to google it.
You need to wait for your licence to come back from the Dvla with the provisional CE entitlement on.
Apart from that, no limit.

That was easy 
When ANC, (pre FedEx) were teaching their own drivers, they would be on a class 2 one week with a driving test at the end of the week, if you passed that you were straight on to class 1 the following week.
