Question on rules and insurance of handballing

hi guys does abyone know where i stand and have i any rights
on tuesay i started at 4am picked a labourer up as second man
went to a factory down milton keynes my. company i work for subcontract all the time they were told you need two men as handball but theres a lift
i had 12 pallets of base and wall units and 2 big pallets of work tops heavy on my 26 tonne scania we got there there was no lift we had to carry the whole lot up two flights of stairs there was other contraelecters working there in our way too. and electrician ect it was bloody hard work and bench tops were heavy i said im not happy with this as im a hgv driver not a labourer and someone phoned the customer moaning i so what happened if i done my back in and our company dont pay sick pay then im skint your one driver short and am i insured for an accident in there told my office. its my opionion of a hard job
so i dont know what rights or what rules and who governs these rules on handballing this any internet sites help and advice would be appreciated i like working for my company but not happy with that job thanx lads

No real rules apart from that manual handling operations must be risk-assessed, not even a max-weight.

If you shared this tale with the blokes that drives a scaffolding wagons I doubt they’d be sympathetic.

It’s what’s involved with the job, simple as. Until you reach the stage where you have a good enough rep and rapport with your agency or gaffer then you need to get used to it. For the most part it comes with the territory of driving general haulage/distribution on rigids. Maybe you should try doing some agency work for Brakes or 3663 instead and seeing how you like that! :grimacing:

Exactly boys ! no good for an older bloke…ive had people try it on when i was on containers, ah you will be here all day then drive…thats great paid by the hour give us a knock when youve done…im just off for my full english. :sunglasses: if you dont want handball get out and do another job…i did it when i was a young bloke you dont get any points for it just a bad back in later life.
