morning all,
the clutch pedal in my car appears to be sitting higher than it usually has been, the biting point also seems to be higher than normal.
Any mechanically minded people got an idea what this indicates?
Cheers all

Depends wot type car ■■
Normally from my experiance from cars !! and i am kinda confident with fixing them but not a meccanic…but if the pedal is kinda real loose and easy to the floor and and the bite point is very low on the pedal then it could be needing a new clutch / duel mast flywheel…
Is there plenty clutch fluid in it… that can sometimes raise the pedal up …stiffen the pedal…
but as i say dont take it from me…
Usually wear of the friction material. As the centre plate face wears it moves closer to the flywheel which makes the springs move out further which pushes the thrust bearing back which raises the pedal and the biting point until eventually the biting point reaches the stage where it’s right at the top of the pedal because the clutch plate is almost on the rivets. That’s when it’ll slip under full load in a high gear.If it reaches the rivets it’ll tear up the flywheel face which can mean a new flywheel too in that case.
The other type of case in which the biting point moves closer to the floor with loads of free movement at the pedal is more likely to be knackered clutch hydraulics (slave or master seals etc) or knackered cable (stretched) or knackered weak springs in the clutch cover.

Does it have the obligatory National Trust sticker?
Sorry couldn’t resist
is it cable or hydraulic clutch??
if its cable, there should be some form of adjustment at the gearbox end of the cable
if its hydraulic it should adjust itself.i know the rover 75 is hydraulic.i had the horrible job of fitting a new master cylinder to one not so long back.
if it is hydraulic then whith the fault you describe i would say new clutch kit or at least gearbox out for a look!
hope this helps

Your problem in a nut shell
Sorry haven’t got a clue.
iirc, the 25 has a cable operated clutch…
anyway i’d thought it would of have of had a head gasket on it long before the clutch goes…

It sounds like the release bearing on the clutch .
When you start the engine listen for a whining noise, if you can hear it, engage the clutch and if yhe noise stops, it will be the release bearing they are prone to collapsing on these. To repair them it means a clutch out job so may aswell replace clutch too.
Obviously might not be this but if it starts whining , i would say its 97% gonna be that.

Check the cable!!! Do mind the clutch, even it’s still going! It might just tear apart if it’s worn out. Then you’ll have to drive it clutchless
