Question for you 'old boys'

Just wondering…while flashing other guys back in i’ve noticed that tanker/adr drivers always(well, nearly) take another 20 foot/5 seconds before they pull back in in front of you. Is this something you guys are taught■■? Just need my endlessly roaming mind answered lol…

Hi Dazzlerx,

I can tell you that there’s nothing whatsoever in the ADR tanker module or even the deeper ADR Regs about that, so I’m guessing that it’s a company policy thing.

i’m not imagining it tho am i dave, i’m quite clued like that (some say ■■■■! lol) i definately think its there

Have to say that I haven’t noticed this but I have had a few tanker drivers pull in too close just like other drivers :open_mouth:

Maybe I’ve just been unlucky

I’ve noticed this too but never really gave it any thought, maybe they feel you’ve flashed them too soon.

Are the lights crap on Axors? Not many people thanked me the other day, some didn’t seem to notice. Or was it to do with being limited to 52?

Sometimes I don’t notice if i’m flashed in but I usually say thanks anyway as most do flash you in. If they haven’t flashed then they probably think it was a sarcastic thanks  . Sometimes it’s hard to keep one eye in the mirror and one eye on the numpty in front of you who decides to slow up for no apparant reason though. Some on the forums say you shouldn’t be driving if you cant judge when to pull in and won’t flash anyone in but to me it is just a common courtesy and one of the things that seperates us from the numpties.

Hi Dazzlerx,

TBH, I can’t say I’ve noticed it in practice, but the larger tanker fleets do have a very active driver training and re-training regime.
AFAIK, their guys are reassessed by driver assessors every two years.

Trust me mate, if it were written in ADR, I would know about it. It’s not even mentioned in the new ADR due in 2011 either!!

My drivers theory says not to pull in until you are sure there is space, not to go by another drivers signal.

I guess with tankers you want to be extra careful due to it quite often being an explosive load.

Yep that what it says & you are taught that but in real life

Not that many explosive loads tbh

I have never had a prob some too soon for my liking with both general & tankers some take a bit longer

I tend to see more fuel tankers than milk tankers. Thats what I meant.

I knew what you meant  (Fuel is a flammable liquid, actual explosives have their own category.)
