Question for you artic drivers

What you all talking about posts and shunting for? :unamused: No need for any of that [zb] just do as bullitt says, piece of ■■■■. Even if loading bay is at this end when pic is taken from, just drive in from left, take a wide swing to the left to where the blue bit is then reverse straight back. Seriously, some drivers like to make work for themselves. :unamused:

a city trailer no problem ( 30ft single axle stear) i used to have them on dorlux contract at halifax for gerry jones transport

I probably could with one of our trailers. Tha doesn’t look much tighter than some of the farms i go to on a daily basis

DAF95XF:
I think you probably could, with a few shunts!!
The West Quay in Southampton is quite tight, and it looks like the John Lewis boys have to blindside it into their bays :open_mouth:

i never did envy them. especially the 2nd trailer :open_mouth:

Definitely ok using small trailers - Argos have a few like that & they use single axle trailers which turn in incredibly sharply if you’re not careful. Can’t remember the actual length of them but the I think they were about 8m,

Me… don’t think so, never had enough practice since passing my test.

Wife… yes, probably, seen her do similar to this before, got pics somewhere…

zippy!:

well where ive been was in liverpool somewhere… first pic looks ok but that was the dead end (and wanted a pic of my truck in there) so i didnt make the pic properly so you could see all the posts on the left to show the tightness!!!
but you will see them in the next!! :stuck_out_tongue:

I would say yes providing height is ok and there are two empty bays directly opposite each other

This looks very similar to the National Carriers yard where I was the night yard shunter in the late 70s - before getting my first driving licence

3 point turn in between 2 of the posts or pop the susies and give it a right good jack knife whip so if you crash it will be a good un

Who am i to talk it took me a 20 point turn to get into a car space at premier travel inn leicester underground car park, by heck it was tight as a nun’s ■■■■■ and that was in a ford focus

“Huh, we’ve had bigger than that in here driver.”

Ken.

That would be a lot more difficult with a RHD truck.

Whoever designed that for artics to deliver to, should be sat in the truck, given the keys & told to back it onto the bay.

Here ya go guys, this is what you want… and no, it wasn’t just to make the drivers job easy. The entrance is on a busy high street & planning permission was only granted with the condition delivery wagons did not need to reverse into our out of the site.

Could some nice person explain how to embed a video please? (by PM perhaps). I’ve just tried 3 different ways, all without success.

like this

just paste the url, highlight it and click the video button at the top right of the reply box

ps, ignore the youtube “embed” code

Oh, that easy?

I was trying to use the youtube code.

Thanks Denis

good video

but whats with the trailer ? its changed altogether

washy jnr:
Put a Kfc or a Burger King loading bay down there and trust me 3663 will send a artic down there without thinking :open_mouth:

That’s cuz our boys are good…well, some of us are

the first pic looks pretty straightforward to me. same as bullitt says, pull in to the right and reverse to the bay. then just drive out. if the turn’s too tight you just pull past the exit and reverse out on your good side!

the liverpool tip looks a bit trickier but, with a bit of lateral thinking, could be done fairly simply. i’m having trouble judging from the pic but it looks like you pull to the left and reverse in a bit of a dog-leg onto the bay.

i always ask one of the assistants(if there are any!) how the lorries normally get on the bays and if they’ll watch me in.

the loading bay in rackhams in brum used to have a turntable to turn the trucks round but its been fixed in place. the pillars all have plenty of paint on them

Asda,s could use one of those turntables at there shop in Southgate.

well im always careful with that!!!
a long time ago i needed to be on a yard came infront in the street and thought :open_mouth: i had a phone number so rang them… and yes i could come there and turn as well!! (and i said i was with a proper big lorry )
well i knew it and it took me a long time and a lot of turning twisting and whatever you can do with them to come out of there!!!
and do you know what there reaction was when they saw me coming… OMG we thought you where smaller !!
i was the first one who came there with that size of truck!!!
thanks very much
and that was one story … have a lot more things what happened in the same sort of idea!! ( and i know for sure a lot of others will join me on that!! )
