Question for rigid drivers

Why do a lot of you when parking in Truckstops, MSA’s or anywhere else where you park next to artics park level with the front of an artic ? Seen it a bit recently and had a tight space to reverse into last week at Sedgemoor services but because a rigid was parked sticking out even further than the artics it made getting in there more difficult than it should have been. Why not park with your rear end level instead. :unamused:

Is it a size thing because you want to be seen to look just as large as others ?

I have my safety hat here waiting.

I drive a small rigid and reverse right back to the rubber stops.

I don’t need to compensate for anything below the belt :sunglasses:

I park level with guys next to me because when parking the car it annoys me no end driving past a space then thinking oh that’s free and go to reverse in and there’s a smart car hidden :imp: same concept with lorry parking or is it? I only drive a 26 tonner.

Although what you’ve described sounds like an idiot who was sticking out past the artics, not level.

Whenever i’ve had a rigid i try to park out the way in one of the awkward blind side gaps that the artics would struggle with and leave the prime easy parking spots for those who might need them.

In practice many don’t seem to give a fig for anyone else and too many seem incapable of manoeuvering their vehicles whatever size they are.

Maybe keep level with the trucks either side so their cab is in view.As if park hidden away from view it is a security issue with theft from the cab.If i am in a row i try to park a view feet further out to keep an eye on the cab if on a short pit stop.

Always park rear ends level myself, anyone who doesn’t has no excuse for at least parking a tractor unit length back. The guy sticking out further, that you mentioned, needs to start acting with consideration for others.

See it a lot myself in msa’s & the only reason I can think is that they are scared to park to far back incase someone thinks an empty spot & proceeds to reverse into it !! I have seen this once, a 7.5t had parked & was all the way back. So to be fair is pretty well hidden in the dark between me in a 26t & a 44t the other side of him. A foreign 44t pulled up & proceeded to reverse into what he thought was a gap!! Few blasts of the horn from me & he stopped, I’d got out by this point to show him !!

Could that be a reason some park level or are they more likely just plain thoughtless of others.

I tend to try not to “hide” at the back of a parking bay because I know just how annoying it can be to aim for what looks like a vacant slot, only to find a small vehicle tucked away out of sight.

There is quite a logical answer to this question if you are remotely intelligent, it is sensible to have the front of any truck no matter how long it is level with the vehicles next to it so that any driver looking for a spot see’s in advance that the space is taken and then the aproaching driver doesn’t go through the procedure of manouvering ready to reverse in then find the space is taken. Also I have seen lot’s of cases where a rigid is reversed fully in to that space and some pillock has parked his car or smaller vehicle in front of him.
What is REALLY annoying is when some idiot parks his tractor unit in a full space :imp:

Seems to me that the OP has the size problem and is so arrogant about driving his artic and not a smaller rigid … Just remember how you started out sir.

I just dump my rigid wherever it fits and I reverse it all the way in if someone is daft enough to start reversing in to a space they have not checked tough, I seem to be far inferior to Artic drivers, don’t get flashed in as much and looked down upon, but I just laugh. And then amazingly when I put my trl on I am looked up to because I am a bigger than you artic boys  you look at me with such jealousy because I am amazing being able to manoeuvre such a beast  Oh god I’m bored today

A rigid driver could be a relief driver and swap around from rigids to artics to cover holidays or illness.

Yep. That’s exactly what I’ve been doing for some weeks now.

I would park at the front as well ,just to make it obvious that the space was not free.

maybe so they dont have to sit and watch the more experienced driver get out of cab and wave his willy around and having a pee up the wheel, then pulling his dirty skiddies out the crack of his arse while your there tucking into your sarnies?

as said showing space is being used,

why do some artic drivers have to think they are better then everyone else? just because you choose to drive an artic and someone else chooses a rigid does that show who is the better driver? irrespective of actually not knowing the drivers circumstances, i have a class 1 but choose not to use it as i want to be at home and see my young family every night, as I know plenty guys who are the same…

this industry will never get any better whilst there are these silly arguments going on…

What I find annoying is the idiots that park in the exit lanes at Southwaite services. The ones with the arrows must be clear so the lanes either side can get out.

And the rigids can go to the places where artics can not fit like farms and private houses for all the cheap tat they order on the interweb.
I was dropping off a stove to a cottage. The client had left a note on his door to say out walking the dogs.
So i grabbed a 45 min break. The phone rings. The client asks if that was his delivery as i was near his house and wants his stove noiw.
I tell him he has the wrong number as in his little world drivers are not allowed a break.

I’m sure even the dimmest driver can work out if he’s in a rigid or an artic when parking

What difference does it make if its a rigid & parked front end levewith artics , if all you class one boys are superior drivers then you should be able to back in easily , i mean how do you cope when the only space is between two artics ? I have class one but drive a rigid mainly , although it does have a draw bar that is used on occasion & I have no problem backing in between two artics …

I normally drive into a space where other drivers have reversed. Im a very anti-socal rigid driver and dont like making eye contact with other drivers. It give you the impression that I want a chat but I dont.
