I saw one of those mini road sweeper things with the hoover and brushes hoovering up the grit shortly after the roads had been gritted in a town centre earlier. Dismissed it at the time, but one of my friends posted a facebook rant about it and four other people from other areas said they’ve seen the same thing.
Is there a valid reason for sweeping up the grit (eg it’s done its job by then and they are cleaning up the residue) or is it the council being inept?
usual council bollox , manager A says " go and grit the streets " , manager B says " go and sweep the streets " . neither knows or has any interest what the other is doing . all we get is " can’t grit your road , cutbacks you know " .

Resident A moans the street hasn’t been gritted and she won’t be able get her Range Rover out of the drive to take Tarquin to his fencing lessons, so they send a gritter even though it’s unlikely to be icy the next morning.
Resident B moans the road has been needlessly gritted and she can’t take her Rolls Royce out to the golf course as it will rust… So they send out a road sweeper to clear up the grit they didn’t need to put down in the first place.

+1 that about sums it up 100%
would be nice to see a gritter, they still havent been around here, nether has the bin wagon
Had this sort of thing happen in York a few years ago when I was cabbing, gritter out at 3am then road sweeper out at 5am more than likey both driven by the same driver, I emailed the council asking if this had anything to do with their new recycling policy!

I’d like to know why people slow down to pass a gritter on the motorway? Is it not just the same as any slow moving vehicle? Albeit losing it’s load
Perhaps they dont want their vehicle to suffer from stone chips!!
We had someone who lived around the corner on our estate who worked for the council, every time there was snow or forecast low temperatures the gritters would come around do his street and not touch our street the ■■■■■■■■■
