Subscript:in Latin:- ’ sub qerqus arbor’… Translated as… The kazzi’s under the oak tree
There was Sinderby on the south bound years ago ( shell / BP ) both at times but that closed years ago for the upgrade A1
Rainton was there as well just south on the A1 just down from Quernow but that closed not long back
Barton is on the A1M or just off North bound just past Scotch Corner
Londonderry has closed but he has opened the new lorry park that is next to Leeming Bar ind est & of course the old Leeming Bar lorry park on the other side can access both form North / South bound
Only ever used the Quernow never again it was a horrible place. I’d forgotten about the Little bistro, liked that place.
didn’t the one further south past the m62 get busted for growing weed?
The “Way West”? Yeah, or rather the “nightclub” upstairs did and the whole lot got shut down IIRC. The truckstop bit reopened a few years ago though, the guy was on here for a while pushing it. Nice enough bloke as it goes, I met him once when a load of us who used the parking area regularly while it was closed were very politely asked for a fiver for the night when he first took it on.
The “Way West” is up for sale privately - not through an agent.
£500k for the freehold probably puts the mockers on the Quernhow ever re-opening as a truck stop.
Was there a truck cafe near Howden on the road to Bridlington? I am going back a long time now, but seem to remember a huge car park and the cafe was decent too although we only visited it about three times or so.
Opposite Howden Kitchens? There’s a small bungalow with parking but it’s only open in the summer for coastal traffic now.
I can’t remember. I think it was just past Howden ( the village) when you come off the M62 and the cafe was set back a little. It was always summer when we went.

I’m not surprised or sorry the Quernhow has finally closed, it’s been a disgusting excuse for a cafe for donkeys years now. It wasn’t always like this though, until the mid 80s it was the cafe of choice for most journeymen using the A1 northbound, infact it was so popular for breakfast it was difficult to get in until the early rush was over. Regards Kev.
i do miss those gems of yore. the motorway is changing the scene. however the adult superstore , south of Wetherby might have a coffe machine. im going for a lewk lent time im passing.

Spot on there kev I can remember when it was really good.Just shows what happens when places change hands and the wrong people take over.
Just a question, was the campsite owned by the café or was it a separate business, anyone know?
regards dave.
