I’ve got my HGV Class 1 but I’m not driving at the moment. I think I’m going to get back into it. I hope it’s fine for me to post in this new driver’s forum. It may be helpull for them too. I’m just wondering what other qualifications do you guys on here think might help in ordr to get a job. I’ve alread got my CSCS Card which would allow me to work for a Scaffolding company. It’s a kind of card which is required to do labourers’ work. What other kind of qualifications would be good in order to help me find work? Thanks.
I’m not a driver yet, but these could help.
Adr (tanks and/or packages)
Hiab
Moffat/counterbalance license
any qualifications required to move machinery etc.
Hope this helps:)
Cheers
Jonny
DQC - driver cpc card
I’ll add MPQC (Epic) which allows you into quarries which would help with tipper work.
You could also look at Banksman as it would help you get on with one of the planing companies
Maybe look at IPAF for operating MEWPS (cherry pickers and that)

Do you mean the 35 hours training that drivers have to do before September. If so, I’m aware of that but have to admitt I’ve only done 7 hours. Another cost!

Thanks. I’ve seen a few positions for Cherry picker operators at this local agency but I’ve never seen it in conjuctions with a HGV license. Do such posts exist? When would you have a Cherry picker at the back of lorry? But thanks for reminding me as I meant to look into this qualification.
Given that the fastest cherry picker I’ve ever driven went about 4 mph I imagine you’d use a lorry to get them to site cos they’re a bugger to carry

Thanks. I ws thinking of those things which you see being pulled by vans. I saw one yesterday in town. I’m sure they’re also called cherry pickers.
I don’t know quite what you’re on about but I’m thinking of MEWPS like flying carpets and scissor lifts cherry pickers and the like
Scooter licence? Probably more money in pizzas, after what I’m being charged in Dominos

Yes I do mean that and it seems to be the one question employers are asking - Do you have a DQC or how many hours do you have ?
RHIDES card for container ports.
The new exam or watch a video on safety while working in Southampton docks hauling containers.
First aid training.
I’m on about these
Perhaps this is what you meant
IPAF is required for all of them but the towed ones obviously you don’t need to haul about on a lorry
OK thanks. And yes, that is what I had in mind ie the towed ones.
I wonder if anybody can help me…I’m looking to get some experience on a road sweeper. One of the larger ones. How would I go about getting this? I did contact a local firm which have one but although it looked promising to begin with, I just haven’t been able to get on it. It might come good again but I’m not counting on it. So any advice or maybe a contact would be great if I could get a couple of days or so experience on one…
The reason I asked about the sweeper training is that I’ve seen a few jobs posted by a local agency and I enquired about one. They were interested in me but then they asked if I had driven one and I said I hadn’t. That was the end of that. I’ve written off to 3 bodies today who say they provide training but only one has yet replied saying they no longer offer this type of training.
