QE2 bridge closed- again!

You’d have thought that it would have been possible to enclose the sides of the bridge to prevent crosswinds, obviously not by building a bloody great wall but by a shaped prfile that would direct the air above or below.( Bit like a wing but without the lift)

That is exactly what they have done with the new Severn Bridge, it looks like high crash barriers that deflect the wind. When it is very windy often the old Severn bridge (M48) is closed yet the new bridge (M4) remains open. However I believe one of the problems with the QE2 bridge is movement in the wind, and adding wind barriers would increase the “Windage” and make it swing more!

BTW, the QE2 bridge is closed again today, I have just come back from Cambridge and carried on down the M11 and through the Blackwall tunnel and back to the M25 via the A20, only about 5 minutes delay getting off the M11 on to the A12 so had to be quicker than queueing for the Dartford crossing :smiley:
