Punishments for commercial drivers

Helping your drivers to comply
TC guidance offers case examples to share with staff
driver
How many of your drivers know they’d face a four week suspension for using a mobile phone while driving a commercial vehicle?

Or that they’d be suspended for six weeks for a second speeding offence?

Some possibly don’t even know the Traffic Commissioner can take action against their professional driving licences.

That’s why our vocational driver guidance has 26 different examples of how traffic commissioners deal with driver conduct.

The case studies cover a range of circumstances, including:

mobile phone offending
drink driving bans
using a magnet to interfere with the tachograph
using another driver’s digicard
failing to respond to the directions of a DVSA stopping officer
The guidance also lists the starting points which traffic commissioners consider for different offences.

You can use these starting points and the case examples to educate your drivers about the consequences of poor conduct.

BE AWARE

If it’s suspension ‘‘with pay’’ bring it on, and ■■■■ my employment record, …travel agents here I come. :sunglasses:
No chance I know, but I can dream.

Am I right that only speeding offences committed in a commercial vehicle are relevant for any of this ? And TC’s will not be notified / do not need to be told of, offences commited in private vehicles ?

Asking for a friend

Sadly…

For us limpers, suspension with pay is a far and distant dream.

Many moons ago I managed to clock up 9 points for 3 speeding offences in the space of a week all in a lorry and I never even got invited to tea with the TC.

Just a few years ago (early 2010 I think) I managed to get snapped in a lorry by the same speed camera three times in one week. I already had 3 points for a traffic light offence (while driving my car). Managed to get an awareness course for the first speed offence (company delayed processing the later ones until I had the awareness course booked). Formal interview with my TM but no involvement with the TC…

Well given that in Scotland about 80% of truck drivers blatantly ignore the truck speed limits if it was that important maybe the TC should press for greater enforcement as clearly at the moment it is open season and if you stick to the rules you are castigated.

Suspension is brilliant for us limpers, more work for us when the fulltimers temporarily lose their licences.

I agree…

Drivers on suspension are a source of work. What I was getting at was the no suspension with pay from an agency.

Im glad I dont drive HGV anymore !!!
