Pulling a bonded load, what would you do?

Almost every load I pull is bonded, and we’re told to flash up a card explaining that we’re not obliged to open windows or doors, but will be happy to follow them to the nearest police station, or something like that.

Have you got one of them?

Forget the police station.
1 ring 3 nines and explained give details of the v.ehicle stopping you and location ask for response.
2. You can go to ANY CROWN PROPERTY ie military camp instalation.

  1. If you do stop don’t open any doors and explain the reasons.

Being a bonded load has no bearing on the case it’s just deemed hi risk hi value.

You sure on this? I’d have thought an unexpected truck with a police- esque type vehicle flashing away behind it swinging into an army camp in these days of heightened vigilance would certainly raise an eyebrow ( or even rifle ) from the sentry  :open_mouth:

I wouldn’t fancy it!

When I was a kid my dad drove the camper van up the private road to a military base where they monitor communications. Two sentries. One in the hut, one out. The one came out and then they both raised their rifles. I was screaming at him to just do a [zb] 3 point turn already.

Eventually he did while I hid behind the seats.

But those military bases are absolutely nuts. Delivered into one once.

Yeah don’t make the mistake I did of speaking to the sentry. What I was “meant” to do, was speak to the (Actually very friendly) MoD Police chap in the hut. I hadn’t been sure who to speak to, so I played it safe and went for who I thought was the gaffer, the Sergeant with the rifle. Cue a bit of a bollocking but I didn’t know any different.

Well I parked in the bay marked “HGV” and walked towards the gate keeper. He told me to go round into the gatehouse and speak to the men there. Gave the very serious looking Military Policeman my details and sat for a picture. Then went and waiting with the truck wearing a tag with my face on, and a note put in the windscreen saying I was allowed in. A young serjeant came to ■■■■■■ me through the site. Nice lad (I say lad he was probably older than me). I said “I bet I look a bit out of place with my hair” (it’s past my shoulder blades), and he said it’s nice to “talk to somebody normal”!

Then I had to handball off the entire pallet of water. I was sweating like mad, and they were just fine. Fit buggers.

But yeah. First a prison, then the next drop was a military base!

Personally I’d just stop for them if they were taking me to a known checkpoint. Otherwise just keep going, chances are they’ll get the police involved themselves if you refuse to stop.

dont be fooled into thinking people wont spend money to make money, £1500 for an old galaxy £800 to get it wrapped in vosa colours, most vosa station are unmanned and the only thing keeping u out is a padlock, if your pulling a £500 grand load thts worth about £300 grand to them then the it costs nothing compared to the reward, even a mobile scanner jammer only costs about £150 these days so thiers ya mobile and tracking signal gone, my advice would be if dont look right or your getting blocked in , ram the buggers, because they wont think twice about wrapping u up for good money

I’ve picked up from a lot of mil places. Army bases. Mil fuel depot (they asked for my cooking stove), Marchwood, Aldermaston, Brize, Some Reme place. Got lost round Portsmouth Navy citadel on the cobbles near dry dock. They were always easy going. Maybe I was lucky and just got the right people. Friendlier than RDCs and less rules. Probably changed since ten years ago. They lacked decent commercial loading equipment though. Right pain

Back in the '90’s I used to take bonded tobacco in containers from Southampton dock up to John Player in Nottingham, had two unmarked police cars as escorts, one in front and one behind, very discreet, do they still do this?

I used to do that as well, never got the police ■■■■■■ though, there’d be no description of goods on the paperwork, but the delivery address of John Player Nottingham gave it away! another undescribed load we used to do was to Snap on Tools Kettering!

If your load is about to be hijacked then a life or death situation could be on the cards don’t you think■■?
