Pulleyn's

Do any members work for this outfit , usual info required please ? Just received application forms for the job , and have been told very mixed things about the job … Although non necessarily bad , long distance ,2/3 weeks away ,nice kit but unbelievable amounts of red tape that can brake you !

Well, if you’ve got temperature sensitive drugs in the back worth millions, you have to expect red tape don’t you.

I’d say it’s a cracking job from the outside looking in, you’d have to be a company man though which is fair enough.

I heard they were looking for drivers.

They’re a company that appear to completely on top of the job.
Good kit that’s well looked after.
Quality work.
Totally legal.
And according to the drivers that I’ve spoken to they’re treated with respect.

In return you’ll be expected to be a professional and on top of the job, spend 3 weeks away at a time, be prepared to go anywhere (and get back again!!) and keep up the companies image by keeping it all looking clean and tidy at all times.

Always bear in mind that fridge work, UK and European, can involve some very anti social working hours.

I’ve heard the salary is comparable with the other small to medium sized fridge fleets in the bottom half of the country.

Good luck if you go ahead with it.

Pharmaceutical specialists. Can be Turkey,Greece,Russia or Scandinavia.
A big firm in Madrid where you can get sent anywhere after loading.
Ally wheels to be polished on time off.
The timed readings have to be recorded a two hour intervals.
The fridges have alarms and are lockable.
Scot is the boss there.
No gas cookers in the cab or cooking in the cab.
You mean the red tape can break you not brake you.

I reckon it sounds like a cracking job if you can handle the time away. It just depends on the money ?

Got talking to a driver off there a year or so ago, no complaints, said you can get sent anywhere but he liked that side of it, no mention of money but he said he’d done a few years and was still happy.

As I said in the original post , the only thing the drivers I have met seemed to frown about was the level of paperwork etc . Although I could fully understand this ,as it ain’t ur average fridge work . All the drivers agreed bar touring work , they doubted their was any british firms doing big distance work regular , so the scope to see Europe was definatly there . None of them would talk money but on a whole gave good reviews. Just thought to open it out to see what other drivers thought . Thanks for the replys, got my ADR in 2 weeks once that’s done I’m gonna apply me thinks .

dead mans shoes

Driver-Once-More:
dead mans shoes

Well they are advertising so maybe some men died or they got extra work due in.

dead mans shoes

Is there really such a thing these days??

Driver-Once-More:
dead mans shoes

no its not.

I ain’t too sure that there is any job in the uk that any of us could say Is ‘dead mans shoes’ . Surely if a person has the right attitude and skills , they would be welcome at any firm , in some respects if you looked at every job out there you would probably find somebody who would say the well worn phrase , it’s a lazy answer … In my time driving I’ve met many people who use the phrase often ,usually with 'if you did get on there u wouldn’t last cuz you can’t do the job ’ thrown in also … Nine times out of ten its said because they couldn’t be bothered to try something …I’ve met a few Pulleyn drivers some old some not so , if they’re advertising it can’t be dead mans shoes … Unless they’re planning a cull in reading !

Most of the drivers there are long time served.
20 to 30 years.Maybe some are retiring.

So true mate a lot of drivers I’ve met moan about there job but never do anything about it cause they can’t be arsed

Is Dave Poulton ( ex Asrtan ) still with them. I used to run with them some times, top blokes with a good professional attitude.

Jeff…

Regardless of attitude and skills you’d only be welcome if they actually have a vacancy. Either due to expansion or due to somebody leaving, if they’re a company where drivers tend to stay until retirement then vacancies are pretty much going to be far and few between. Or “dead mans shoes”

However don’t let these people put you off, you won’t get the good jobs by sitting on your arse complaining that “these companies never hire drivers” or “they only take on mates of others drivers”. If you keep pushing eventually you’ll find that cracking job, while they’re still complaining how ■■■■ it all is and how they’d would have done this and that but the opportunities never went their way.

I did meet a ■■■■■■ off Pulleyns driver on the train earlier on this year, but he might have been having a bad day.

How was the driver who put one on its side on the entrance to the train French side a few months ago?
