Hi, I’m new here and as the name suggests I’m a mechanic. Been working on buses and coaches for the past 6 years and have been working for a local small haulage firm for the past 4 months.
I passed my full PSV manual test when I was 18 and part of the job offer with the firm I now work for was that I complete my class 1 which is all paid for by them.
I guess what I’m asking is how hard it will be switching from a coach to an artic?
I know I have to do my class 2 first which shouldn’t be a problem. And I have been shunting the attics around the yard and our pit is offset to the garage door so that’s good practice reversing!
Hi Dan - and welcome to the forum.
I think you’ve answered your own question - PSV to Class 2 shouldn’t be a problem. It’s only the gearbox that may well be a bit different and you probably know your way around that in any case.
Then Class 2 to artic. Sounds like you shouldn’t have great trouble with that either.
BTW, if ever I need someone to shift my loft, I’ll contact you -------------
shunting the attics
All the best with it, Pete

I heard you caught your finger in the “dial” and some “posh person” had to iPhone emergency to disengage you.

i went from buses/coaches to class 2 then class 1.
going to class 2 was pretty easy, as the size and general feel of the thing is the same, but mind your front overhang isnt nearly as long! and you have to drive slower!
like said above, the only difference is the gears if you are doing 4 over 4. but someone who has driver large vehicles before it shouldnt be hard. i went from automatic buses to manual lorries so you should be fine.
i personally found class 1 easy to learn, you just need to remember to do it to DSA standards
