*PS3 inverter PLEASE HELP*

Please help, i am having trouble powering my ps3 and 19" tv. I bought a Skytronic 600w inverter 1200 peak.
It powers up both, but switches itself off and dispays a solid red fault light. i have tried in another vehicle and the same thing happened.
I sent the inverter back only to be told it is fine…Does anyone run a playstation 3 (mine is old one 380w) off an inverter, could you please tell me which make/model will run it.thankyou in advance.jon

i tried with a crappy 300w, and it wasn’t having any of it.
we get landline power at most jobs, so not a prob.
1 of our lads is running a xbox 360, i’ll see if i can find out if he’s on an inverter, and what power it is.

How are you powering your Inverter, Is it from a cig lighter socket or wired directly to battery? 12V or 24V?

If you’re trying to run a 12V 600W inverter from the cig lighter socket, there’s no way in hell it’ll ever work with more than a 100W or so load on it because the 12V dropper in the truck only supplies 10A which equates to 120W.

The only way you can run a 600W inverter in a truck is to wire straight to the battery.

I am running inverter on >2 meter cables hard wired to the trucks 24v batteries. The inverter will work on small loads like laptop chargers phone charges.but won’t run the ps3 even on its own.I think that the xbox 360 draws a lot less power.the batteries on my truck are new aswell so it can’t be them at fault.

I have trouble running my laptop from a 24v inverter, but it runs fine from a 12v one. The conclusion I came to is that the 24v inverter’s sinewave is too square for the laptop power supply to run correctly. That may be the same for your PS3 power supply.

thanks for your reply, i have spoke to maplin and they told me your can only run a ps3/xbox 360 on a pure sine wave inverter.
going to try and search the internet to find one under the 200 quid mark…and not from china or taiwan!!

It might be possible to get a 12/24v power supply for your ps3.
There was a site called laptop garage, but they have closed their sales page :frowning:
I got a laptop power supply from them. It was £40 all in, which is quite a bit more than one of those multi jobs from Maplins, but a lot cheaper than a pure sine wave inverter.
Try e-mailing them at info@pclaptopgarage.co.uk , they might be able to help you out and there’s nothing to loose by asking.

I’ve just got one of these off ebay - 230400348597 . Not tried it yet on my laptop, but if your ps3 doesn’t draw too much current it may work for you. Only £14.99!

Tried it today - won’t run the laptop

It does seem to charge the battery slowly, but as the battery is knackered, thats not a lot of help anyway.

My laptop needs 6 amp supply and the converter only gives out 2.2 at 20v.

I run a xbox 360 215w and a 19" tv 75 watt off my sky tronics 300w 24v and my phone chargers to and it has no problems… Before i had a 600w 12v and it was pants. I think 24v invertors are the way to go, your cab is designed for 24v and you can wire them into the fuse board like mine is saves all the cable been needed. In most cabs you can run a 300w 24v of your 24v power socet… not ■■■ socket they are in scannys only 120w as the power socet is 360w  Think its the same for man’s.

Found a solution…Finally. I can confirm that a maplins 800w/2000w peak will run a ps3 and 19" hd tv.
Here is a link to this product.

Runs both the above for about 3-4 hours no problems.

I hope this help anyone else.
