Having done quite a bit of reading over the past few weeks and learnt a fair amount about the internet, and what marketing companies are capable of, I thought it was about time I invested a few £ a month in a proxy server. Does anyone else feel the need to use them, or is it just me overreacting?
To be fair the amout of spam e-mails I’ve been recieving has gone down markedly (weather it’s due to this I don’t know).
Cheers
Ian.
Hi
I assume you are a single user and are not connecting to the Internet over a network, in which case I do not see many advantages of running a proxy server. There are a number of web sites out there offering annonimity when you surf, the service is free. Try;
the-cloak.com/anonymous-surfing-home.html
Firewalls also hide you from other computers on the Internet, in effect hiding you fom hackers and other companies trying to ‘ping’ you. If you want to test your PC and see if it exists on the Internet, try the following
grc.com/default.htm
click on shields up-proceed-all service ports and await the results, you can also try the other services if you wish.
there are a number of interesting pages on this site regarding security.
The following may also be worth a visit;
wilders.org
which is the main page
wilders.org/free_tools.htm
as the name suggests.
