Just a few questions about my license and what training I need to do, it looks like I may be unemployed in the next few months so need to prepare.
I am 46 and currently have a D1 passed in April 2012 so I have a cpc valid to 2017, possibly looking at a full D license so I presume I don’t need to do any theory or hazard perception tests ? the certificate lasts 2 years which is over, but the fact I’ve passed my D1 surely means I don’t need to do it again ? I looked at my license online and there is no mention of a D provisional, which I had before I did my D1, is this a mistake ? if i ask to have it added does that mean another medical ?
Next question, if I decide to go the LGV route I already have CPC once again, but I believe I have to do theory for LGV ? And the provisional, this is the odd one. I believe you have to do a C before a CE but back in 1991 I added a class 1 provisional on my license and never went ahead with it, because of this when I checked online I have a CE provisional still valid until 2017 from 1991. Does this mean I can go straight to a CE ?

That provisional CE was issued under the old now revoked rules so you will need to do C then CE
As you mention 1991 that means you passed car test before 1997 so already have LGV C1 on your licence
Did you do initial PCV driver cpc modules 2 and 4 when you did your PCV D1 test or did you do the 35 hours periodic dcpc
I need to know that before advising further
I did the 4 modules, think it was 4. to get my cpc rather than the 35 hour training

Thank you because that means you have a DQC with only PCV on it and not LGV
This is what you need to do if not already got C and/or D provisional …
New D4 medical - max £60
D2 form and tick C & D only
LGV modules
1a theory
1b HPT
3 practical drive/reverse
35 hours of periodic dcpc but many schools have the practical C and CE courses approved for some of those hours
You get generally 14 for each standard 5 day course if 1 to 1 half days and 28 if 2 to 1 full days IF THE COURSE IS DCPC APPROVED but there is no list so you have to ask each school you contact
Completing the 35 hours will end up with both PCV & LGV on the DQC expiring in 2022 because 5 years gets added to the current PCV expiry date as it was gained by passing initial dcpc PCV
Thanks for that and the D ? am I right in saying that I just need to pass the practical or would I have to do theory and HPT again ?

Just module 3 practical because you have already done PCV theory for the D1
I assume you did D1 to get rid of the 101 code?

That is correct, did it in my own vehicle otherwise I would have gone straight for a D then. Its the D provisional that I don’t understand, it was there when I applied for D1 provisional, not sure why it’s gone, may be worthwhile giving them a ring before re applying and having another medical

You are still going to need a new medical if going for LGV C so by ticking C & D on the D2 form will sort that and cost no more
Pity you did not tick C & D on the D2 form when you did the medical for D1 as that would have covered every licence category in PCV & LGV

I did That’s why I don’t know where D has gone
Not sure which way I am going yet but I already have the C and CE provisional on my license
off the online license
Category : C Start date: 1 Apr 1991 End date: 28 Feb 2017
Category : CE Start date: 1 Apr 1991 End date: 28 Feb 2017
I presume that’s valid

IT IS
= NO MEDICAL NEEDED for LGV
I find it odd that provisional D has disappeared if you ticked D on the D2 form back in 2012 when you did D1 so I would contact DVLA to find out why
Little extra tip - as you have not had a licence issued after Oct 2012 then by changing the photo even if not expired will give 5 more years from when its issued with the new photo
I am starting to question myself about the D but I am sure I ticked it, be daft not to. Good tip about the photo thanks.

If it turns out that you have not ticked D then waiting until you do the next D4 medical and putting in a D2 form with D ticked on it at the same time will save any extra medical expense
