Provisional License On It's Way

Hi All

I thought i would write a post to introduce myself as no doubt i will become a regular over the next couple of months and onward!

At the age of 23 i have already had enough of my career in motorsport. The only good thing about it is that at the moment i am a contractor and i’ve quit my contract to take some time out. I’ve been to see a couple of driver training companies now with a view to do my Cat C license, and i have placed a deposit with one who seems pleasant and competant enough so fingers crossed i’ve picked a goodun…

Now, i don’t know for sure if i’ll love the career change or if it will be for me, but i love a new challenge and hope to complete the course successfully. I’m hoping it will at least give me the freedom to do a bit of agency driving if i get too fed up of my normal job, but if i like it as much as i hope i do then it will be my full time vocation!

It was difficult to consider this career change as it’s a massive drop in pay from my current job, but as some of you will know when you do something day in day out that you can’t stand any more, it has a bad impact on your psychological wellbeing, and it’s got me really down recently. I genuinely can’t think of anything else that appeals to me as a job, that will actually cover my bills, so i really hope i get on well with it.

I’m looking forward to the class 2 training and if all goes well and i enjoy it, i hope to do class 1 and possibly other certificates to keep me in work. I’m lucky enough in this instance to live in an area of Northants that’s heaving with work for drivers, and hopefully if i continue working through my Ltd company as i do at present, i will be able to achieve a reasonable income from the off, and to some extent plan my own working week as i want through the agency - although i’m sure it doesn’t always work like that!!

I’m really excited to get stuck in to the lessons and tests, and providing my license arrives in time i have a provisional slot booked for early november.

I’ve enjoyed reading through the forums so far and hopefully i can contribute something in the coming weeks too. Feel free to chip in with any useful advice for me if you can, as it’s a completely new world to me.

See you in the forums

Shaun

I made the move a month or so ago. Been an insurance underwriter for 15 years and have worked office jobs all my working life so couldn’t be more different.

Thoroughly enjoying it. Money isn’t what I was on before but I am much happier than before. More to life than cash.

You may have to be a bit flexible on what you do at first but with experience comes more opportunity. I am now hiab trained as well so focusing on construction type work which suits me just fine.

Take your time whilst learning, listen to your instructor and relax best you can during your test.

Good luck with it all…

All the best with it. Any questions, fire away.

Good look pal I’m in same boat got my theroy on wens and should start my class c training in 2 weeks then I’m going to do the class one straight after c I’m really looking forward to it and a bit nervous I’ve just spent 370 on a sat nav no I didn’t need to yet but thought I might as well while I’ve got the money and I’ve all ready got my digi card so just need to do the tests now and I’m ready to go

Thanks chaps

I’ve been revising for the theory a little bit every day, it’s nice to be learning something for a change even if it is just for a theory test!

Can’t wait to crack on now and get behind the wheel

I no I can’t wait to get behind the wheel I’ve practiced the theroy disc every day for 2 weeks and I did the full 1031 questions yesterday and 1025 right so think I’m ready lol but good look with yours mate

I would strongly recommend studying and getting access to a mock cpc mod 2 test also.

Whilst a lot of it is similar to the theory test the format is different and the questions more in depth.

I had the theory test cracked and then looked at the mod 2 stuff and briefly ■■■■ myself. A couple of nights cracking through much after mock got me right.

Any Suggestions on which Mock CPC Mod2 test use?

I used drivingtheory4all.co.uk. Cost was around £15-20. Worth every penny for me - would have failed otherwise

Thanks will have a look into it. Could you tell us what it’s like the test? I’ve been reading on here that if you nailed your theory part it’s pretty much the same answers just little worded differently is that true ?

Anything you recommend brushing up on before going in or anything particular we should look more into depth for example working hours or breaks ?
