Prostate problems

You have done so well Dozy, it’s all down the positivity of the thought process to beat it.

Yes stuar, and a large dose of luck , but as I say 2 nd time round I stayed positive , though the consultant was worried I’d not understood the seriousness of the diagnosis

Good for you. Be well.

Today just a gentle reminder of what can happen if you don’t get yer prostrate checked ,

Dad got diagnosed mid 2003 but it was already out the prostrate , as the year came to a close and come in to 2004 he had to give up work , In March he lost the feeling below the waist as the cancer had gone to the spine , late July he went in to a hospice and 17/08/2004 (today) 21 years ago he lost the battle aged 62

Not being flippant but I do think it’s luck of the draw , a while ago there was a young lad of 23 having a mri scan like me for cancer , lovely wife and apparently 3 little girls , he was in hell of a state , just didn’t want the scan , my wife comforted his wife as she was a real mess , they kept in touch by phone , updating each other on how things were going

Wife got the terrible news he’d passed , I’m guessing 24/25 , 3 little ones , times like this I do have that quilty feeling , 64 , 2 lots of cancer & still going , why did I 24/25 yr old die of one lot of cancer , a 64 with 2 lots is still going

I agree with getting tested , but the outcome I believe is in the lap of the gods ( I’m not in the slightest bit religious )

I’d lastly say they’ve all been stars with me , really looked after me & do to this day land I’ve not always been the easiest patient , I found a lot of it difficult , didn’t like it

Yes get tested .

This old lad had his 6 monthly PSA yesterday.

Get tested.

Hopefully you get a good result gom

I’ve just had a call from the urology dept. PSA has gone up to 49 ,the ‘cut off’ number is 50 so they are going to start me on hormone therapy.

There’s nothing I can do about it so………go with the flow GOM and hope for the best.

I had a telephone appointment with the Bolton urology dept three days ago & they said as my PSA levels have been virtually zero over the last eighteen months & my waterworks are OK they’ve taken me off the patient list after three years since I was diagnosed.

@Grumpy Good luck with the hormone treatment, the hot flushes the hormone injections gave me were unpleasant to say the least.

Best of luck g o m

When you say they’ve taken you off the patient list lancpun I assume you will still have psa / mri scans & biopsy’s if need be ? If not I wouldn’t be having that , I’m back on 6 monthly psa / 18 month mri , though I believe my last psa was 13.1

Hi ady, The urology guys at Bolton said as there is nothing symptomatically that we can do at this point, we will be not be arranging any routine follow-up for you, however we will give you eighteen months on the patient initiated follow-up waiting list (PIFU) & should you wish to be seen you just need to contact our booking team.

The oncologist have changed my PSA tests from 6 months to 12 months, my last PSA test was 0.06.

Weird!!! Just got an SMS message from Bolton NHS urology saying I’ve got a telephone appointment tomorrow afternoon with them! I was told I was off the patients list last month.

I got the call from Bolton urology this afternoon & it was the lady surgeon that did the biopsies asking if everything was OK & being taken off the patient list, I said I would rather have had the PSA tests to stay at every six months instead of every twelve months but apart from the bowel incontinence since finishing radiotherapy, I said I’m doing OK. She said wrong part of the anatomy for us, we had a laugh & she said take it up with the oncologist at Christies.

They are ■■■■■■■ awesome at Christies!! :+1:

I got another letter from Bolton urology the other day detailing the treatment done for my records, with a letter also going to my GP.

It’s the first time they’ve put a name to the condition (bowel incontinence) I’m suffering from since finishing radiotherapy, Chronic Radiation Proctitis.

All the best lancpun , got psa / consultation due next month , nothing changed with me , hopefully psa dropped slightly , into 12 ,s would be nice

It depends I find who you see , Leicester 1 yr , 3 yrs , 5 yrs , Lincolnshire , we’re not having that 6 months , 6 months then maybe extend to 1 yr

Same as one consultant says not a issue just what you will get after operation , next one , what the hell is that large lump on your side , we need that investigating asap

Not prostrate related but shows just who you see as to what treatment you get , I now just say no I want 6 monthly’s follow ups etc , you have to tell them sometimes
