Proposed Reduced Seed Limits - Discuss

bigdennis:
Speed is often the main factor in accidents, RoSPA research has proven this, BUT,as RoSPA goes on to say,it is inappropriate speed that is the major cause. Most of the accidents happen with vehicles doing less than the posted limits. What we have got, as shown in previous posts on this thread, is an inability to work out a safe speed to drive at , bearing in mind the road conditions. Only lots of traffic police will sort this out,not revenue raising cameras.

OR better training with ongoing assessments for drivers so that they are checked to see if they can recognise what an appropriate speed for the conditions are :bulb:

How many cameras monitor motorwy splits and how many vehciles have you seen cross from lane 3 to exit, braking hard, or jumping into lane 1 across the double white lines of the chevrons?

I’m not so sure i agree with extra police officers to sort out inappropriate speed, as it open to ‘opinion’. I too agree that cameras are not really effective, and the figures for drivers being caught by them sort of bears that fact out. They are not actually slowing people down. What is needed is quite simple really. Road design that effectivley prohibits speeding physically. It really is that simple.

the road design can’t do it, the safe speed varies with weather and traffic. Very difficult to improve people driving ability, theres a police man round here that drives worse than the boy racers. How much training has he had? He just puts his blue lights on and shuts his eyes. I’ve met him twice now on a blind bend with him on the wrong side of the road. If i could see his badge number i’d write a nasty letter but sadly all i see is the whites of his eyes  Someone put a police car in a field the other day, he was one of the officers stood looking at it so i like to think he put it there.
