'Professional Driver'/Secure Load

I would have strapped that load. I would not strap well wrapped standard pallets though and don’t believe you can use tables, matrixes or flowcharts to work out what does and doesn’t need strapping.

Curtainsiders are far tougher than people make out on here. When I was at Somerfield a new lad put roll cages in a curtainsider and didn’t know to put the bars in the side posts but none of them came out and there wasn’t really any mad bulges in the curtain.

I cant understand why you posted it in the first place ,MOUNTAIN OUT OF A MOLEHILL ,its really no big deal . :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Sorry Seth, we’ll all stop posting, then we won’t have any thing to discuss !

The thing is, it aint moved so whats the [zb] problem?

You sound like another sucker for this h&s culture that is infesting our industry, god forbid you visit the 80’s when we moved things around without ratchet straps and had no load losses and hi vis vests were for coppers only.

Truckbling, the ever probing DVSA is now the problem and the fact if a load drops and the driver did not restrain the load he is basically knackered , financially, legally and employability.
It is our responsibility to make sure a load is restraint enough, sign of the times mate, we know the rules we cant change them so lets move on

Thanks Drift, I can’t stand all this H&S BS, same as the rest of us, but it looks like I’m proving a point of 50% of drivers get it & 50% don’t.

Threads like this are good for newcomers to the industry as ironically the first picture may pass a quick DVSA check of openng the back doors to take a peak yet the second picture using a proper span thingy (or strap as we used to call them) is better.

Our responsibility is not to secure the load so it looks good for the DVSA it is to ensure the load is secure, the difference maybe finite with certain loads but with others its crucial.

Back in the day I used to have my own motor with straps in one side locker and ratchets in the other (usually ratchets in the nearside so if you do have to tighten them your not standing in the road to do it). I even had my favourite straps and ratchets and used a lot of WD40 (or diesel if I couldn’t knick a can from the stores) to keep them in tip top condition.

Those where the days when I could chuck a strap over a high load very accuratley not the hook end in case some poor bugger was walking past the other side.

[can’t believe I used the word ‘finite’, makes me sound edumacated  ]

i learned to drive trucks using a cup of water on the dash board and i couldn’t spill a drop, when you can drive like that my boss said then you can have the keys

the idea behind it is and was because of loads we carried so we didn’t move them whilst traveling, if you was lucky you might find a bit of rope to help you but if not then it was down to your skill as a driver to get the load to its destination without damage. looking at how that load got to its destination without damage, then that driver has done a good job, over roundabouts and all sorts he didn’t lose or damage the load
job done in my book
now for those who want us all to stand around in ■■■■■■■ down rain pulling curtains back buggering about with straps for loads that you can take without all that bollox or who take pics of loads and run straight to the office to report the driver i wish you would learn how to drive better

I wouldn’t take it without ratchets & if you check my other posts on load security, if it’ll go I’ll tek it. (Unless it suited me & then I’d ginger it).

Even if the wheels were locked could still move, very little contact between bed & load.

He was responsible for the load whilst he was pulling it, when you get the load secure it to your standard, stop trying to be holier than thou. Uf the other driver gets pulled by vosa it’s his look out not yours.
Still the same old crap on here, people getting off over their own insecurities
