I see on the news that the deliberation in the trial against the Connors family begins today. In case anybody forgets, this extended Irish traveller family are being tried for forcing vulnerable men into servitude.
The men were allegedly given little or no food, forced to wash in cold water, and, were paid a pittance for up to 19 hours per day,six days per week,on hard blockwork/roadwork/paving work.Prosecutors said the men lived in caravans and sheds, deemed unfit for human habitation.
I was particularly impressed for once, by the judges comments.
And I quote the judge “This is not a trial as to the law or culture or practices of Irish travellers.
It is about the law of this country,as it applies to all residents from whatever race, religion or culture”
Let`s hope that the jury pay attention to his directions.

Let’s hope this case focuses on the fact that these men are scum for what they have done and NOT because they’re travellers.
