Hello,
I recently discovered, that i have a exhaust brake on my Scania. I was looking more information, how to get it work, but so far, nothing. Even Scania dealership won’t answer my e-mails. I always wondered, what that switch meant on my instrument panel:
Anyway, i found out, that there should be a switch on the floor, near the pedals, but i don’t have any. Some time later, i was surprised, i discovered that it should be automatic, without the switch on the floor:
How can i test it? Do i just need to apply brakes? Or take the foot off from the gas pedal? When i switch on that exhaust brake switch on the instrument panel, nothing happens. Here’s a pic of the mechanical part (new airline ordered):
Next question, how to switch on the seat heater? Or where’s the switch?
There should be a little round button on the floor in front of your steering column for the exhaust brake,i think it’ll only be automatic if you have a retarder, my heated seat controls are on the front corner above the other seat controls.
ROG:
The brake pedal has a little play in it before the main brakes are actually applied
When the exhaust brake is activated that play in the pedal will be the exhaust brake
You will feel it working and it makes a low growling sound
Thank you, i’m going to try that.

Hmm, there just isn’t any buttons on the floor. Could you do a picture of that heated seat controls? I would really appreciate it.
Done. But still waiting for the picture, Shoshaye. Or any other who can help. I will try the exhaust brake tomorrow. The company has today some big meetings and i have to participate.
The exhaust brake is air operated and will have a better chance of working when you fit the new pipe
when fitting the pipe, ensure that the mechanism is not seized, you should be able to grab the arm with a pair of pliers and turn it
From memory the 3 series heated seats were automatic, they had a temperature gauge in the instrument panel and it worked it out from that, they came on for the first 15mins or so and then shut off, we used to unplug them as they were unecessary if you’d been running the night heater all night rather than getting into a cold cab in the morning. There should be a couple of wires and a plug on the side of the seat where the back rest meets the seat cushion, check them…if they’re still there
The exhaust brake you know about, I noticed the lorry is a LHD, unusual that the exhaust brake is on the brake pedal, every LHD Scania I’ve driven had a seperate exhaust brake button to the left of the clutch pedal on the footrest, but you’ve sorted it anyway, so not an issue
Cold Up North:
Make sure the bolt and split pin in the mechanise are good as they have a habit of working loose and sticking shut with a cloud of black smoke…

Heated seats have their own temp gauge? Or you mean the motor temp gauge?
I think they work in tandem with the temp guage on the dash, I had a base spec 113 and that didn’t have either of them, but a decent spec 113 I had did, so as that also had a temperature guage on the dash, where the other one didn’t, and the heated seat only worked for a while and only when it was cold outside, I’m assuming that the two were linked

I don’t have outdoor temp gauge. If i’m not mistaken, the gauge had trip and outdoor temp.
