Problem with a v8 scania

chipliner:
Hi all
I have a 164 480 that has just started an oil leak at the rear drivers side of the engine ,it’s quite high up on the opposite side where the compressor fits on , is this the problem riverdance refers to ?
If so how do I fix this problem as riverdance reckons it’s a relatively easy if caught in time ?
Any info would be great thanks .

Chip… are you sure its leaking from the bell housing■■? take a good look in the rear part of V of the engine esp at the oil cooler plate and camshaft plates■■? you carnt miss them a good few bolts on the plates…steam clean the engine off and check again in a couple of days… to see for defo where the oil is coming from. some of the bolts on the bell housiong work loose and can end up knacking the bell housing as well Nope it aint a very hard job but it sure aint a easy sat morning job,
its easy if caught in time!! by caught in time i mean your not buying a New engine :open_mouth: . its gearbox out bell housing ETC off and a couple of replacment parts "timming/oil gears and gasket / sealent ,
a rough figure “not scania” for someone to do the work for you is around £1.000. drive in drive out… daz

Obviously unlikely to be the case with the OP but if you do get a 2nd hand truck and the dipstick keeps popping out but not a lot of oil coming out at the same time check the truck has got the right dipstick as can be some random one the dealer’s put in.
