I’m going direct access in 4 weeks, everything included like the CBT and all that. Im just wondering is hard to pass? Ive already got a bike, 04 plate gsxr600 in yellow! The insurance has come out at £40 a month!!! Thats incredible compared to me paying £100 a month for my car. I know its probably not the right bike to start out on but hey I drove class 1 before I did class 2 lol .
i did all the manoeuvrings and tasks perfect but failed to look over shoulder 3 times !!they call it a life saver, and supposed to check every time speed changes or direction changes or setting off, etc etc. so lots of times but 1 is a minor and 3 minors same thing its a major so failed !!
once bitten passed second time
all the best ride safe
Hi i passed mod 1 easy enough but mod 2 was a bit harder.they are very very strict reguarding life savers and keeping close to kerb etc.just always check over your shoulder.also a gsxr600 are great bikes but can be a bugger of a riding position,i always found it hard to get a good view of around me
Re mirrors.if you are going to do something different from what you are doing, (change of speed,( brake or accelerate), direction, lights (indicate),etc, then check mirrors before hand.
If you have nothing to do, then check mirrors.
Bike test is probably the hardest of any test these days but if you get a good Instructor and listen carefully it is not a problem.
It was easy when I passed mine in 1975 on a 250cc.Round the block both ways only making sure things were done correctly as you passed the examiner!

Here’s mine, not really ideal for a new rider but an easy and forgiving bike, maybe a couple of track days would be a good idea.
I passed my bike test in 2006, because I have always loved bikes and riding fast (not anymore apart from on track) although I didn’t buy a “proper” bike until 2009 a CBR600, I can’t comment on the test as the format has now changed, however what I will say is, is that on my test the examiner followed me in a car and not on another bike, I was told before hand that this “could” happen. It was great got one minor and the examiner told me he couldn’t pass me with no minors so did me on use of speed (he was top examiner at Sutton in Ashfield) or something a long those lines. The test was easy as I spent most of it 2 - 3 cars in front of him as I was on a bike I just showed that I could progress in traffic, didn’t wait for him at lights etc just had a ride out.
When doing my emergancy stop he told me to go around the industrial estate where I had practiced so I came along at 20mph as instructed and he held his board up to tell me to stop, then says,
“how fast was you going then?”
me ■■■■ scared “about 20mph sir”,
“who told you to do that speed?”
“that is how Bill trained me sir”
“how fast will you be going on the road?”
“30mph” (this is when I thought that’s it you have failed)
“and the rest lad now go round again and do a proper speed!”
All in all you will never feel as free as you do on a bike, it’s the best feeling in the World (yes better than ■■■ IMO), but it is very VERY easy to lose that pink card and everything that goes with it!
Arnt there restrictions on how bigger bike you can get after your test?? I have been thinking about it after I bought a motocross bike in Vietnam last year, never even rode a bike before but I loved it.

Too true, sitting on a duel doing 70 just seem so slow on a bike, I didn’t used to think anything about winding it up to 160+mph back in the day, on private land obviously. Now days I have too much to lose and a family to support.
All changes again on the 19 Jan
Very nice bike that JAKEY
Sorry to derail slightly but your paying £1200 a year car insurance!!! how old are you btw? Do you live in a rough area?
I failed mine twice, passed 3rd time.
Both failures for speeding On a CB500■■
Car 1st time, Bus 2nd time, Bike 3rd time, both trucks 1st time, learned my expensive lesson

Why, is it still 1993■■ Fireblades are sooo 90’s dream bike, remember when everyone in the pub had a 'blade … sure you have , now it’s quite believable though, when I had my blade it cost me 110 per year to insure, my current RF900 is around 108, not bad for a 165 +/- mph bike that’ll exceed the motorway limit in 1st gear and get you well past banning speeds in the length of a slip road.
Just got a 125 honda varadero and loving it so far ?
Hopefully I will do my bike test after a bit of practise maybe March / April ?
Keep us up to date with how you get on, a short diary would be good ?

To be honest I don’t really know much about bikes, and if I was to ever get a bike license I would probably start off with a Gsxr 750 or 600.

I didn’t think that was too bad tbh I’ve got a 52reg ford modeo 2ltr diesel and my insurance is 800 with 8 yrs ncb its more to do with age I guess.
This new test has opened up a can of worms in my village, a mates lad came into some money and bought a Ninja already for his birthday this weekend. All of a sudden he is 3 years too young to ride it. Not a happy lad at all
