Private Pilots Licence

My lads in his last week of tests exams etc to fulfil his dream of working in aviation as an ATC. so 4 years on he’s got on to his course and is in the final 9th week so all rests on this Friday …

That said anyone on here got a PPL or go flying as a hobby.

I know a few drivers over the years that have their PPL just wondered if anyone here has it… and what you do …

No idea but good luck to him

I started doing my ppl at Ipswich about 20 years ago, got to about 16 hours in (soloed at 9 hours), then got married and haven’t been near a plane since :frowning: if I ever come into some money I’ll start doing it again, but there’s a ■■■■ load of other things which need paying for first.

‘Ipswich radio, g-bgaf requesting taxi instructions please’ still remember the lingo!

Oh, and BUMPFHHHH when on the downwind leg.

Gary

Something ive always wanted to do but never had the means.

Your lads training to work in ATC? Good on him. Best of luck for his exams. Let us know how he gets on.

I take it ATC is air traffic control ?

Anyway good luck to him, I hope his exams go well

Good luck to you lad Nick,
I’ve done a bit of gliding, but time and money means I stopped. But it’s something I keep meaning to have another go at. It’s fantastic way of flying.

I fly a paraglider if that counts. Its the simplest and cheapest form of aviation out there.A new entrant could get air bourne for about the price of a C+E licence.

Allan, Google Olu Deniz, these firms operate down there in sunny Turkey ; Re-action, Sky Sports, and Gravity plus many more, jumping off Babadag at 6500 A.G.L,it is a N.O.T.A.M area, no M.A.T.Z ,civil or military flights.
They charge about 50 to 70 pounds for a 45 minute flight, which includes 30 YTL entrance fee to the park, transport to the summit. And life insurance cover.
Acrobatics are on offer.

Last time I flew privately was 10 years ago. Before that I flew extensively for 10 years flying off farm strips in the east of England. Anything I could do - towing gliders, aeros etc. I was obssessed back then. I bought a small single cockpit taildragger with a VW beetle engine. It was great fun. Gave it up when passion turned into a career and didn’t ever go back to it. Got older, Life got in the way and priorities changed. I’ve looked at taking it up again but it’s so expensive now. Paragliding looks good. Talking of hobbies, I fancy taking up scuba diving. I tried it and liked it although wasn’t keen on the whole taking your mask off and breathing thing.

I got my PADI advanced diver training done in Goa.Since then i have the Red Sea,the Thistlegorm Second World Warship full of goodies to look at.
Liveaboards, where you go to sea for a week.
Scapa Flow Orkneys, the German navy fleet sunk there.
Oban in Scotland.
Plymouth diving centre.
Porthkerris Cornwall.
Divers come from all walks of life.
Sharm el Sheik and Hurghada are the best dive spots. The water is clear as gin.

Hmmm, I reckon that any pilot needing diving training could possibly be the worlds worst pilot!

Sadly it’s more believable than anything the daily mail prints.
