Price of medicals

£60.
i filled it out, as he’d never seen one before.
i’m not kidding.

My GP wanted to charge £90, but I googled for medicals and found one local to me (South Wales) that did it for £60…

how often are the medicals?

ever 3 or every 5?

After you are 40 every 5 years ( or every 5 years if do medical over 40 ) then when you get to 65 every year

I thought it was every five years after you turn 45 years of age. Doesn’t apply to me though… I’m required to have a medical every three years since I was 38, last one was 2009 and cost me £50 at my GPs.

Dunno then?:

One of my colleagues is doing some research for an article for CM and would like to have an idea of how much you have paid for your vocational licence medical…

It may be worth surveying how many employers assist with this cost?

Now that is the $60 000 question! I’ll start the ball rolling with that one and tell you that my company makes you pay the lot, medical, digi card update, driving licence photo renewal :frowning:

Never had one Guvnor that contributed anything to my medicals, except one doc who knocked it down to £48 from £70 if I was paying for it myself.

£50 in Felixstowe with a gp recomended by my company who also reimbursed the full amount. October 2010.

Which medical practice was that in Felixstowe? If you don’t mind me asking, I only went to my own practice cos it’s just across the park! £92:40p.

PS Mind you I probably won’t need another! I’ll chuck it in in 2014!

If you have your 1st medical at say 43 then your next is at 48 ( 5 years later ) but if you had it before you were 40 then it is 45 & every 5 years unless on a "short term " licence from DVLA on medical grounds

I’m coming up to 68 this time around, and for the last 3 medicals I’ve been going to a local practice that does a proper medical, the full monty, and it’s been £30 every time.

Had my medical yesterday, Doc asked if i was a patient with them.
As i was he stunng me for £60. Think it was £70 if i was’nt.
He reckoned it was £120 at the surgery up the road. :imp:
I think he thought he had done me a favour but it should be free as part of a n.ormal health check.

mine is free through the companies own doctor. tbh i would have thought the larger companies would have picked up the tab for there drivers…

£160.00 at the health centre at Cupar for my first one and i believe it is now £168.00. Robbing bar stewards…

When I retired from EXEL they used to pay for everything you went to their doctor filled all the forms in and handed them in. This was also the case when I worked for Pickfords in the 60s and 70s they even paid for your passport if you ran abroad. I do not know if this applies since the DHL takeover but when I worked for private company’s it was the driver who paid for everything.

Thats still the same since they have taken over ! I’ve never paid for anything !

When medicals were first needed for the new hgv licence in 1974, my medical cost 50p…till the doctors cottoned on to a nice little earner…My doctor charges £100…but i prefer to have my medical details known to dvla from my own doctor, than a stranger.
One point of view gents…how does a doctor get your medical history if you are not a regular patient, for example: a driver has a heart complaint, goes to a doctor advertised wherever, but not his own doctor, so he lies to the doctor, tells him hes as fit as a fiddle, and gets the all clear…said driver is then free to wander the highways with a heart attack imminant…or diabetis, etc can this happen ?
