Price of medicals

driversmedicals.com are our company doctors and medicals are done on site with the company picking up the tab.

I reckon this is a nice little earner for a retired GP: I went to one in Birmingham for £30. He only does one afternoon a week so; say 10 drivers at £30 each - not bad if you can get it.

He did a free re-test for me because my BP was too high the first time.

And I thought we were lucky getting ours subsidised!

Had mine done last month with Cotswold £52 with a fiver being donated to charity.

I have had three medicals and (so far) the doc has done them as “freebies”, I have another due next year but might not bother with it. :frowning:

Pete.

had to have my 45 birthday medical in may last year , my doctor wanted ( if i remember right ) £125 for my hgv and the same for my psv , i told him no thanks and phoned the training school local to me that got my through my c.p.c years ago and by stroke of luck they had started doing medicals for drivers and i got it done for £65 for both … took ten mins and all done .

I am at an age where I require a medical yearly.Been £75 from my GP for the last two years.

I had a medical last month and it cost me £103 at my regular doc.

I had called a place called Driver’s Medicals, and they quoted me £49, but couldn’t fit me in when I needed to get it done. Then someone told me that the DVLA generally let the medical through without any hassle if it comes from your own Dr rather than a “stranger” so I reckoned the path of least resistance, and given the time constraints, it was easier, if not cheaper to go with the Dr know.

Everything was fine and got my licence back with about a week to go before it officially ran out.

Dunno then?:
My last one was £50.00 but Norbert gives us £35 towards it so…£15.

Same form for both licences. Just tick the boxes,£125.00 for each tick

£25.00 from my GP ( Member of a group practice ) in Novemebr 2010. One of the other GP’s wanted £90.00 three years ago when I needed a new medical form for issue of Provisional PCV licence at 42. When I told my GP about his colleague charging £90.00, he said “Bloody Cheek, he gets paid anyway” My GP says he charges £25.00 as a token fee.

Mine cost me nowt just over 2 years ago ( should have been £40 ) at training providers

When I retired from EXEL they used to pay for everything you went to their doctor filled all the forms in and handed them in. This was also the case when I worked for Pickfords in the 60s and 70s they even paid for your passport if you ran abroad. I do not know if this applies since the DHL takeover but when I worked for private company’s it was the driver who paid for everything.

how often are the medicals?

ever 3 or every 5?

After you are 40 every 5 years ( or every 5 years if do medical over 40 ) then when you get to 65 every year

One of my colleagues is doing some research for an article for CM and would like to have an idea of how much you have paid for your vocational licence medical…

My initial medical in April 2004 cost me £99, down at my local doctors surgery. In 2009, when it needed doing again under the 5 year rule, I shopped around a bit and got it done for half that price by an outfit called Doctors on Wheels, in the car park of Stibbington Truckstop, in a motor caravan. :grimacing:

It may be worth surveying how many employers assist with this cost?

Now that is the $60 000 question! I’ll start the ball rolling with that one and tell you that my company makes you pay the lot, medical, digi card update, driving licence photo renewal :frowning:

My 1st medical pre-1980 was £60+ at my own doctors.
Though since my cousin was the receptionist at the time, she didn’t fully comprehend why I was waving pound notes under her nose & told me to put it back in my wallet.
Then a couple of months passed by & I went to the doctors, and was promptly reminded that IF I didn’t pay the outstanding money he would kick me off the books.
@45yrs I went to Dr Singh at Brinsworth medical centre opp BOC gasses Rotherham (just off M1 tinsley viaduct) and was charged £25 ( with £10 cash back if it was refused).
Now i noticed recently theres a flyer on the tspt office wall, with a phone number on & now the same Dr charges £30. I’m told there’s normally a queue of drivers out the door every Saturday morning

My first was at local quacks - £50. The medical consisted of me bending down and touching me toes :open_mouth: They went up to £98 so I have had second and third at local private hospital for £100, so civilised, lots of machines, printoffs - and tea and biscuits! My boss picks up the tab as well - bless him

£50 in Felixstowe with a gp recomended by my company who also reimbursed the full amount. October 2010.
