Premium oil filler cap

I,m running a 52 plate Renault Premium and about once a week the oil filler cap pops off. I lost the first two, £10 each you know, so i secured this one with a string. Does anyone know if this is normal? Thomsons say its the top of the filler neck getting worn out and ‘flexible’ but i,m not sure as it seems quite hard and i,ve dried it out. Any ideas?

I run a kerax which has the same engine etc and mine is a tight fit  ! but the problem I have with mine is, it uses a gallon between changes and I cant get any oil down the filler neck, it just air locks so I have to put it in the rocker cover filler cap. So it sounds like weve both found one bad thing with a renault !!

The old sick 400 prem. I banished back to Hades last year did this and if I looked underneath she was breathing like a paedo with a telescope.

Back pressure due to rings made of French surrendermonkey metal??

The most feckless thing on wheels since Allegro’s.
Nice jacket tho’ from Renault UK. still wearing that 2 years after the truck was landfill.

There’s a Prem. 2005 plate with it’s giblets all over the yard just up the road at the mo … must be viral!!!

I reckon you could be right. As i,ve still got cover on the mbi, renault are not to keen to investigate in case i claim for a new engine or rings as they will have to foot the bill. Uses quite a bit of oil when theres full loads all week too. Plus i get a warning on the dash shaped like an injector with an electrical volt going through it about once a month, period warning i call it, any ideas on that?

that sounds like a good idea

Your warning light that is coming on is the speed limiter fault light.

Dont worry about the injector / volt symbol coming on. mine used to do it once in a while. 9 times out of 10 its caused by either stored fault codes flashing back up or an injector that never fired correctly or the canbus system hasnt communicated correctly.
get all the fault codes wiped and it will hopefully be ok.

with regards to the cap blowing off, is the breather pipe that runs down the side of the engine on the N/S - is it blocked?? it should be breathing like a ■■■■■■■ engine does - again dont worry about it. mine did it and used 1 gallon of oil over 45000kms - long drain oil of course.

Yeh its clear and blowing ok, it does use quite a bit of oil too, especially when running full loads all week as you,d expect. Thirsty on diesle too unfortunatley. Actually its a piece of scrap, i should have gone for a daf!!
